Doris L. Thompson (December 24, 2010)

Doris L. Thompson (Caskey), 93, of Greenville, passed away on December 24, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Doris was born in Greenville, Ohio on July 27, 1917 to the late Chalmer and Ruth (Cox) Caskey.

Doris was a graduate of Hollansburg High School. She was an avid writer and could create a poem at a moments notice. During her early years, she was a great tap dancer and was very proud of that. She worked for Corning in Greenville and later worked at the Richmond Glove Factory in Richmond, Indiana. Doris was a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Richmond and also very active in the past at Palestine Church of Christ in the past. She was always busy on Sunday morning and evening, and Wednesday evening with helping out the church. She was also a member of the Friendly Circle Club in Hollansburg. Doris loved to play cards, work on puzzles and word searches, and play the violin. She looked forward to Thursdays when she went shopping. The most important things in her life were her church, and spending time with her family. Doris' family always looked forward to spending the holidays at Grandma Thompson's house. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Allen, whom she married on January 1, 1935; a sister, Mildred Koons; a brother, Merle Caskey; a son, Michael Thompson; two sons-in-law, Marvin Bevins and Bob Purdy; a great-granddaughter, Sara Bevins; and two nephews, Max Koons and Bill Koons.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Beverly Bevins of New Paris and Shirley Purdy Hollansburg; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Thompson of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, Bruce Purdy of San Francisco, California, Tom (Cheryl) Purdy of Palestine, John Purdy of Hollansburg, Cindy (Phil) Fiste of Greenville, Tim (Pam) Bevins of Hollansburg, Judy (Dean) Weller of Eaton, Kathy (Steve) Anthony of Greenville, Mary Bevins of Greenville, Rill (Kim) Thompson of Springfield and Michael Thompson of Springfield; 22 great-grandchildren and 15 great, great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 3 – 6 PM at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. A Celebration of Life service will be on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Northside Church of Christ, 1962 Chester Boulevard, Richmond, Indiana with the Rev. Christian Penrod being asked to officiate. The family will also receive friends one hour before services on Friday from 10 - 11 AM. The family asks that memorial contributions be given to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund.
