Darlene S. (Spencer) Cook, 59, of New Paris, passed away on November 26, 2010 at her residence after a brief fight with cancer. Darlene was born November 28, 1950 in Greenville to the late Harold and Phyllis (Dill) Spencer.
Darlene recently retired from Tri Village School District after 31 years as a bus driver of Bus #8. She loved to read, work word search puzzles, watch NASCAR and old John Wayne westerns on television. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Darlene was a member of the New Madison Fire Department Fire Belles.
In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by a brother, Steve Spencer and granddaughter, Ashley Leeper.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Kenneth “Gus” Cook; a daughter, Kim (Mark) Bass of Troy; two sons, Duane (Lora Jo) Cook of New Madison and Scoob (Nicki) Cook of New Madison; nine grandchildren, Tia, Amber, Mark Jr., Brittany and Christopher Bass, Tyler and Seth Cook, Damion and Camden Cook; five brothers, Jerry (Maxine) Spencer, Jimmy (Karen) Spencer, Joe (Martha) Spencer, Randy (Debbie) Spencer and David (Rose Mary) Spencer; a sister, Janice Balthis, and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 5 – 8 PM at Castine Church of the Brethren. A Celebration of Life service will be on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 10:30 AM also at the church with the Rev. Paul Gearhart being asked to officiate. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery. The family asks that memorial contributions be given to the funeral home to help with the funeral expenses. Donations will be accepted at the church.
