Helen L. Shank (November 10, 1916 - May 15, 2009)
Helen L. Shank, 92, of Arcanum, died Friday May 15, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville. Helen was born November 10, 1916 in Rome, Georgia to the late Grover and Dixie (McDaniel) Goodner. She was a 1968 graduate of Miami University, and well known Arcanum elementary school teacher, retiring after 37 years. Mrs. Shank was a substitute teacher after retirement for many years. Helen was a member of Pitsburg Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the University of Women Association, the Darke County Retired Teachers Association, NEA, and OEA. Preceded by her husband Howard Shank who died January 1, 1982, daughter Cathy L. Shank, son Rick C. Shank, 2 brothers Delay and John Goodner, and 2 sisters Frances Moorman and Inez Goubeaux. Helen is survived by her daughter Dixie Magee and husband Don of Bradford; son Bruce Shank and wife Betty of Arcanum; Grandchildren Robin Manning, Brian Magee, Christine Hurst and husband Howard, Richard Shank and wife Aurora, Angela Perretta, and Kim Jackson and husband Mike; Great Grandchildren Ryan, Allyson, Brandon, Joseph, Taylor, Alyssa, Megan, Caleb, Richy, Alex, April and Jennifer and her husband Justin; Great Great Grandchildren Felisha, Lashell, Jorden, and Chase; brother Claude Goodner of Vandalia; sisters Edna Barga and husband Norman of Union City, IN, Barbara Karns Link and husband Marvin of Vandalia; brothers-in-law Dick Goubeaux of Lancaster, PA and Donald Brode of Greenville; Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 Tuesday May 19, 2009 at the Pitsburg Church of the Brethren with Pastor John Huffaker and Rev Paul Chastain officiating. Burial will follow in Ithaca Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 4 - 7 PM Monday at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum.
