Ralph "Whitey" Smith (October 18, 2012)

Ralph "Whitey" Smith, 82, of New Madison went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2012 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. Ralph was born on August 13, 1930 to the late Robert and Margaret (Booher) Smith.

Ralph retired from Sheller Globe after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren and attended the New Madison United Methodist Church. He recently worked as an attendant at the New Madison Laundry Mat. Ralph enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds play baseball, drinking coffee with friends at Firpo's, listening to Bluegrass music and most of all having dinner and spending time with the kids and grandkids. He served his nation honorably in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, Ralph is preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Smith and sisters Grace Hahn and Jean Barker.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Margaret (Rodgers) Smith; sons, Scott and wife JoBeth Smith of Shepard, MI and Kris and wife Rebecca Smith of Shamong, NY; daughter, Teresa and husband Steve Clark of Greenville; grandchildren, Megan Riff, Katie and husband Bryan Garvin, Drew Meythaler, Chloe Smith, Bryant Smith, Tracy and wife Amy Burns, Heidi and husband Josh Brinley and Shannon and wife Brittany Clark; great grandchildren, Brennan Riff, Annabelle Garvin, Christopher and Caleb Brinley, Island and Navy Clark and Samantha and Claire Burns; and a sister Elsie Smith of Lynn Indiana,

Friends may visit on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 5 - 8 PM at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 10 AM also at the funeral home with Pastor Carol Duffield being asked to officiate. Military services will be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery in Boston Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, family request memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church, New Madison, Ohio.
