He was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church; Gettysburg Masonic Lodge # 477; Versailles V.F.W.; charter member of Stillwater Golf Club; had an honorary chair at the Sweet Shop; he loved his family and the outdoors; he also loved playing golf and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son: Donald Spitzer; sister: Gladys Spitzer.
He is survived by his wife: Ruth A. (Bowers) Spitzer of Versailles; sons & daughters in law: Ronnie & Sandy Spitzer of Lake City, Tennessee, Billie & Linda Spitzer of Clinton, Tennessee; daughters & sons in law: Cathy Spitzer of Lake City, Tennessee, Tammy & Ben Curtis of Beavercreek, Misty Wray of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers & sisters & their spouses: Reba J. & Chester Richmond of McMinnville, Tennessee, Donald Spitzer of Sumter, South Carolina, Nell Rose Smith of Union City, Indiana, Shelvia Jean & Norman Mock of Union City, Indiana, Keith & Shirley Spitzer of Versailles, Ken & Joyce Spitzer of Versailles, Errol & Linda Spitzer of McMinnville, Tennessee; numerous nieces & nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday April 28, 2016 at 7:00 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio with Pastor Chuck MacKeen officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, LaFollette, Tennessee. Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. A masonic memorial service will be conducted by the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge at 6:45 PM on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Hospice.
