Joseph A. Eliker, 98 of New Madison, Ohio passed away on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at 5:04 AM at State of the Heart Care Center, Greenville, Ohio. He was born March 2, 1919 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Lorenzo A. & Cora (Hartman) Eliker. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He worked many jobs including school bus driver, Mail Carrier, farm machine mechanic, farm equipment dealer, fireman at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, & he also farmed.
He was a member of New Madison United Methodist Church; American Legion New Madison LeRoy Farst Post # 245; Fort Black masonic Lodge ; Greenville Masonic Lodge since 1945; Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton joining in 1947 and receiving his 32nd degree in 1949; E.A.A; founding member of Power of the Past; Private plane pilot; and he loved restoring old tractors.
He is preceded in death by his parents; & his wife: Helen F. Eliker on April 6, 2012 whom he married November 28, 1942.
He is survived by his children & spouses: Barry & Chris Eliker of Greenville, J. Ellen & Charles Sullivan of Greenfield, Indiana, Connie & Ellis Bates Jr. of New Madison; grandchildren: Erin & Michael Effner, Ryan & Lindsey Sullivan, Justin & Elizabeth Bates, Joshua & Jessica Bates, Chase Wright, Kimberly & Jason Huighe; 10 great grandchildren; sister in law & spouse: Anna Lee & Kenneth Stryker of Greenville; numerous nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Carol Duffield officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Veteran’s honors will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with a Masonic Memorial Service following by the Greenville Masonic Lodge # 143. Memorial contribution may be made to State of the Heart Care.
