Kenneth A. Coates passed away in his residence Tuesday June 15, 2021. He was born March 6, 1944 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Don and Rhea (Carnahan) Coates.
Kenneth graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Ona (Lindemuth) Coates on March 7, 1964. They were married for 57 years.
Kenneth is also survived by his sister Jane Smith; three children Michele (Gary) Foshee, Wendy (Steve) Poole and Kenneth Coates Jr.; four grandchildren Heath (Ashlee) Dickensheets, Cody (Chelsea) Dickensheets, Dustin (Cora) Waymire and Kaleb Poole; five great grandchildren Izech and Maggie Dickensheets, Lailee and Lukas Dickensheets and Jasper Waymire.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Ron Coates and Sister Beverly Marker.
Kenneth lived a life to always provide for his family and friends. He could put a smile on anyone’s face that he met. He enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team for three years, where they took home a grand champion title each year. He also enjoyed running, playing golf and cooking his famous “Coatesarelli Pizza” for his family. He retired from General Motors in 1993 after 36 and half years of employment and spent the next 15 years maintaining the Great Darke County Fairgrounds.
A Celebration of Kenneth’s Life will be held at 7:00 PM Saturday June 19, 2021 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00 PM until time of the service in the funeral home.
