Mary Jean Martin (October 12, 2015)

Mary Jean Martin age 74, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:45 P.M. on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Cleveland Clinic. Mary Jean was born February 2, 1941 in Darke County to the late Mike & Onda (Bruner) Gasper.

Mary Jean is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard A. “Dick” Martin; sons & daughters-in-law, Tory & Denise Martin of Greenville, Jeff Martin of Greenville and Tracey & Lisa Martin of Greenville; grandchildren, Chelsea & John Whirledge, Chrissy Martin, Tyler Martin, Kelly Martin and Kimmy Martin; sisters, Linda Sink of Greenville and Debbie Browder of Troy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Jean formerly worked at Uhlman’s Department Store for 22 years and Eikenberry’s IGA for 8 years. She was a 1959 graduate of Franklin Monroe High School. Mary Jean was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Zechar Bailey Funeral home in Greenville with Pastor John Whirledge officiating. Imogene L. (Barga) Baltes (October 6, 2015)

Imogene L. (Barga) Baltes, 70, of Eaton, Ohio, passed away peacefully of October 6, 2015 at Heartland of Eaton. Imogene was born in Versailles, Ohio on January 31, 1945 to the late Lawrence A. and Violet M. (Webb) Barga.

Imogene worked as a factory worker at FRAM during her life. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, her flowers and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Imogene is preceded in death by her sister, Rita Francis.

Imogene is survived by her husband, Darren Baltes of Versailles, Ohio; a son, Daryl and Lindsy Baltes of North Carolina; daughters, Dina Baltes of Indiana, Denise and Shannon Taylor of Ohio, and Dana Wombold of Ohio; grandchildren, Blake Tamplin and Shawnee Rismiller; great grandchildren, Harmony Tamplin, Jenson Tamplin and Parker Tamplin; and five sisters.

Joanne J. Bailey, 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at her residence.

She was born August 11, 1936 in Wyandot, CO, a daughter of the late Royal and Marie (Traxler) Griffin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandchild; brothers, Royal Griffin, Jr., Eugene Griffin; sisters, Virginia Smith and Jane Harmon.

Joanne was a homemaker and a member of EUM Church in Greenville. She loved children and babysat for years.

She is survived by her husband, Paul E. Bailey whom she married on December 31, 1955; children, Kevin Bailey, Kimberly (Dale) Francis, Debra Barnhardt all of Greenville, Darrel (Wenndi) Bailey of Big Flats, NY, Douglas (Brenda) Bailey Ogden, UT; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia (Clarence) Coffman of Upper Sandusky.

Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, October 16, 2015 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Gardens in Covington, OH.

Debbie Francis (Meade) Edwards, age 60, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 12:53 PM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born April 29, 1955 in Greenville, Ohio, to late Marion E. & Mary F. (Shuret) Meade.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Meade of Ansonia, Ohio; Dog, Chocolate; siblings, Marvin (Debbie) Meade of Troy, Richard Meade of Greenville, Dianne Edwards of Greenville, Buster (Connie) Meade of Greenville, Bobby Meade of Greenville and Carol (Dave) Acker of Greenville; niece, Betty (Skeeter) Wise of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, John & Ralphie Meade.

Debbie worked at Wayne Industries. She loved riding her scooter around to various places in Greenville, working with and making things with beads, word puzzles, music, crocheting and most of all spending time with her dog chocolate.

Robert Eugene Buhrman (October 6, 2015)

Robert Eugene Buhrman, 81, of Arcanum, passed away on October 6, 2015 at the Dayton Veterans Hospital. Robert was born on February 16, 1934 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Howard Buhrman and Hazel (Oler) Townsend.

Robert was a 1952 graduate of New Madison High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Robert worked as an electrician his entire life for several companies including General Motors, Belden, Alcoa, Tipp Electric, Bud's Electric, and American Ag. He enjoyed several hobbies such as farming, welding, auctions and traveling - where he always met someone he worked with in the past.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Royer.

Robert is survived by his wife, Athleen (Peters) Buhrman, whom he married on May 22, 1959; sons, Rob and Tammy Buhrman of Milton, Florida, Randy and Annette Buhrman of Englewood, Ron and Mindy Buhrman of Arcanum, Ohio, and Rod and Stephanie Buhrman of Port Orchard, Washington; grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Dustin, Nic, Parker, Josh, Amber, Curtis, Jacob, Ben and Abby Buhrman and Kayla Taylor; great grandchildren, Mia and Hudson Taylor; sisters, Evelyn and Gene Irvine and Julie and Bill Daffler both of New Madison, Ohio.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Castine Church of the Brethren with Pastor Greg Hyre officiating. June M. Hutchinson (October 6, 2015)

June M. Hutchinson, age 94 passed away October 6, 2015. She was born January 15, 1921 to the late Walter and Elmira (Wright) Baker in Monroe Twp., Darke County, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald H. Hutchinson, sons Roger and Nick and brother Jack Baker.

She is survived by daughter Shirley (Kent) Thompson and son Gary (Marie) Hutchinson, all of Arcanum; daughter-in-law Irene Demkiw; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; brother Ted (Vera) Baker and sister-in-law Norma Baker.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother and a long time member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren.

Visitation will be at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio at 1:00 P.M. Sunday October 11, 2015 with services scheduled to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Dr. Fred Bernhard officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery.

Rickey Allen Jeffers (October 5, 2015)

Rickey Allen Jeffers, 64, of Union City, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2015 at State of the Heart Hospice in Wayne Hospital. Ricky was born on November 12, 1950 in Eldorado, Ohio to the late John and Geneva (Brinkley) Jeffers.

Rickey was a 1969 graduate of Bradford Schools. Rickey served our country honorably in the United States Navy. He worked as a janitor at Small Engine Warehouse in Dunkirk, Indiana, and worked at Hobart Brothers in Troy for several years. Rickey was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church in Union City, Indiana. He enjoyed garage sales, camping, lawn work and spending time with his dogs. He loved spending Christmas with the family, and the goofy gift exchange that occurred.

In addition to his parents, Rickey is preceded in death by his brother, David Jeffers.

Rickey is survived by his wife, Pamela (Jones) Jeffers whom he married on September 26, 1998; two sons, Andrew and Tammy Jeffers of Springdale, Pennsylvania, and Keith and Virginia Jeffers of University Place, Washington; a daughter, Lauren (Jones) Jeffers of Portland, Indiana; a step son, David Jones of Biloxi Mississippi; seven grandchildren; brothers, Ron and Brenda Jeffers, Steve and Sally Jeffers, Tim and Judy Jeffers; sisters, Connie Taulbee and Caren Long all of Greenville.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Nova & Allen Rogers of West Milton, Ohio, and Nina & Lowell Unger of Greenville; grandchildren, Durinda & Harold Simmerman, Shelly & William Lane, Kim & Scott Stickley, Craig Unger & fiancé Katrina Smith and Kathy & John Bachmann; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; foster son, Herbert Staight of Huber Heights, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Rhoades whom she married on December 14, 1940; son, Duane Rhoades; siblings, Mary Hill, Izora Strobel, Vertie Horner, Edith Redman, Bertha Root, Ortha Bashore, John Bashore, Jess Bashore and 3 infant siblings.

Dorothy was a member of Gettysburg-Webster Grange, Dixie Twirlers and Friedens Lutheran Church, Bloomer, Ohio. She worked on the family farmer with her husband Ivan and also worked at Neff Lettering.

There will be a service held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Fred Bernhard officiating. Darlene J. Cook (October 3, 2015)

Darlene J. Cook, age 76 of Pitsburg, Ohio passed away Saturday October 3, 2015 in Darke County as a result of a car accident. Darlene was born September 14, 1939 in Warren County Ohio and the daughter of the late Clifford and Virginia (Hoff) Albertson Sr.

She was retired from Corning Inc. after 23 years of employment, a 1957 graduate of Lebanon High School and a member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren. Darlene was currently employed at Rural King of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William H. Cook Jr. January 22, 1996 and brothers Clifford Albertson Jr., William Albertson, Kenneth Albertson and Wayne Albertson

Darlene is survived by her children Earl Sloan Jr. of Arcanum, Carrol Willis of Tennessee, Julee Bourne of Arcanum, Cindy Sloan of Corpus Christi, Texas, Linda Sloan of Springboro and Elizabeth Sloan of Greenville; step son Kris Cook of New Paris; sisters Betty (Cleo) Caudill and Sherry (George) Turley all of Huber Heights, Janet (Chuck) Jones and Sue Phillips all of Middletown and Marsha Lyle of Dayton; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was born September 17, 1946 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Frank Peter & Edna Faye (York) Schumacher.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Tami & David Kendall of Saratoga, Indiana; step-son and step daughter-in-law, Douglas & Terri Mast of Portland, Indiana; grandchildren, Joshua & Ashley Kendall and Kayla Kendall and step-grandchildren, Stephanie & Shannon Fields, Ryan Mast, Katie Mast and Alan Mast; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren; and her significant other, Kenneth Lahr of Chenoa, Illinois

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was also preceded in death by her husband, George Mast; and brother, David Schumacher.

Carolyn was a retired nurse.

Barbara Sue Farmer age 63, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:45 A.M. on Friday, October 2, 2015 at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. Barbara was born March 24, 1952 in Barbourville, Kentucky to the late John & Tilda (Garland) Farmer.

Barbara is survived by her brothers & sisters-in-law, Wade & Christine Farmer of Greenville and Ed & Rosemary Farmer of Ocala, Florida; half-brother & sister-in-law, Wayne & Pat Farmer of Arcanum; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Eugene Farmer; and half-sister, Edith Raider.

Barbara lived at the Darke County Home where she worked wherever she was needed.

Millie Kiger Dunaway (September 29, 2015)

Millie Kiger Dunaway (May 5, 1928 – September 29, 2015). We celebrate the qualities that make Millie so special. An enormously talented woman, she believed her family was her greatest work of art. For 66 years, she created a full life with her high school sweetheart, Ray. Millie often joked that they started a dynasty, referring proudly to her four children, Claudia, Connie, Cheryl and David, their spouses and her 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She loved her family (and all animals) fiercely and protectively. Gifted at the arts, she bequeathed a wonderful legacy of paintings, poems, and recipes. Millie’s favorite Shakespeare quote (adapted) best describes her passing: “When she shall die take her and cut her out into stars and she shall make the face of heaven so fine.” Knowing that our dearest Millie continues to shine gives us peace.

There will be a private service held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Chalmer F. Marker (September 29, 2015)

Chalmer F. Marker of Greenville, Ohio passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 29, 2015 at 8:20 PM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center.

He was born September 28, 1924 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late William and Hazel (Shields) Marker. Chalmer grew up on a farm and continued to farm throughout most of his life. He also carried rural mail out of the Union City Post Office and then delivered step vans out of the Union City Body Company for twenty years retiring in 1988. Chalmer also served in the Army during WWII returning as a disabled veteran.

Chalmer was a member of Beamsville Church and for a period of time was a member of Hillgrove Federated Church. At Beamsville he was elected Deacon and served on several committees. He also was a member of Darke County Men for Missions and joined a 15 day work mission near Londrina, Brazil. Chalmer was a member of the American Legion and Life Member of the DAV where he served as chaplain. He was a multi-gallon donor for Community Blood Bank of Dayton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Viola May Marker, Evelyn Irene Coblentz, and Opal Virginia Nixon, all from Greenville. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Lotha Lee Marker (Landers).

He is survived by his wife Janet Kay Marker (Robey), his son Scott (Barbara) of Union City, Ohio and his two daughters Kathy Marker of Union City, Ohio and Angela Marker of Victoria, Texas. Chalmer has three grandsons: Christopher Marker, Jonathan and Aaron Lehnert; two granddaughters: Dana (Dan) Portillo and Kayla Marker; three great grandsons: Cody and Ben Marker, and Matthew Portillo; brothers Richard and Harold (Shirley) Marker and sister Marlene (Ralph) Hartle. He has numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Stelvideo Cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Doris Eileen Hoskins, age 89 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Union City, Ohio passed away at 6:11 A.M. Sunday September 27, 2015 at Wayne Healthcare Center. Eileen was born October 5, 1925 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and the daughter of the late William A. and Alice N. (O’Dell) Hartzell.

She was a homemaker, a 1943 graduate of Jackson High School and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Hoskins April 18, 2013; step son Ronald Hoskins; 1 step great granddaughter; 1 step great great grandson; brothers Robert and Jack Hartzell.

Eileen is survived by step children Donna (Greg) Stickler of Blanchester, Ohio and Rick (Debi) Hoskins of Greenville; 12 step grandchildren; 16 step great grandchildren; 11 step great great grandchildren; sisters Jean (E.J.) Byram and Dolores (Kenneth) Bowman all of Union City, Ohio; sisters in law Nina Hartzell of Florida and Janet Hartzell of Michigan 2 special nieces Annette Randall and Alice Collins as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Nancy Marie Getts, age 84, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of West Alexandria, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 3:15 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on December 5, 1930 in Montgomery County, Ohio, to the late Emmert M. & Edna Mae Smith.

She is survived by her son, Dwight E. Getts of Greenville; daughter, Diane E. Getts of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Danielle L. Getts; sisters, Vera Mae Marley of Ashland, OH, and Bonnie Jane Phelps of Dayton, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. “Eddie” Getts; son, Duane Getts; and brother, John L. Smith.

Nancy was a 1948 graduate of Dixie High School. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Preble County for a few years as well as worked at the Preble County Home in various jobs.

Charles Wayne “Charlie” Koch, age 50, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 5:45 AM at his residence. He was born on January 12, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio, to Veronica S. (George) Koch of Portsmouth, Ohio, and the late Chester Ralph Koch, Sr.

(Mummert) Koch of Versailles, whom he married on June 4, 1994; daughter and son in law, Amanda & Ryan Peiffer of Versailles; sons and daughter in law, Joshua & Amy Koch of Gettysburg and Christopher Kendig of Versailles; grandchildren, Logan Makayla, Jonathan Michael and Abigail Marie; brother, Chester Koch, Jr. of Piketon, Ohio; sister and brother in law, Debbie & James Schwaumberger of Portsmouth, Ohio; mother in law, Edith Mummert of Versailles; brother in law, David Mummert of Versailles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father.

He was a member of the United States Navy and worked as a truck driver for over 20 years with 10 of those being a team driver with his wife Cathy. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed being with his family.

There will be a service held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 4:00 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 PM at the funeral home before the service. There will be no burial.

Mary L. Davis (September 19, 2015)

Mary L. Davis, 96 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 7:51 PM at the Brethren’s Retirement Community. She was born August 30, 1919 in Arcanum, Ohio the daughter of the late Earnest Virgil & Amanda (Niebert) Baker. She worked in the East School Cafeteria for 25 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Everett W. Davis.

She is survived by her daughter & son in law: Jerilyn & John Gruber; granddaughters: Marcy Johnston, & Alisa Morris; great grandchildren: Colin, Caitlyn, and Cameryn Morris.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday September 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel, 750 Chestnut Street, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren’s Retirement Community Resident Aide Fund
