George A. Schieltz age 85 of Versailles, Ohio died at 3:31 P.M. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at his residence. George was born October 21, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Louis & Ursula (Barga) Schieltz.
George was a machinist at Monarch Machine Tool Company in Sidney for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a motor machinist’s mate 3rd class from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in New Caledonia in the South Pacific. He later became a plank man on the U.S.S. Fall River. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.
In addition to his parents, George is also preceded in death by his brothers, Vitalis Henry, Herman, Raymond, Leo, Robert and Thomas Schieltz; and sisters, Cora Boyer and Sister Esther Schieltz C.P.P.S.
George is survived by his wife, Ruth C. (Wagner) Schieltz, whom he married July 29, 1950. He is also survived by his sons & daughters-in-law, Mark & Roseann Schieltz of Greenville, Kevin Schieltz of Greenville and Brice & Dyann Schieltz of Bloomington, Illinois; daughter, Regina Schieltz of Greenville; grandchildren, Stephanie Schieltz of Greenville, Katherine Schieltz and Alexander Schieltz of Bloomington, Illinois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Darke County Right to Life.
