Mr. John D. Schmidt, age 96 passed away at 9:45 P.M. Saturday June 6, 2009 at the Randolph County Nursing Home in Winchester, Indiana where he most recently resided following 10 years of residency at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.
Mr. Schmidt was born September 26, 1912 in New York City, New York. He was the son of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Desmond) Schmidt.
John was a 1934 graduate of Columbia University with a B.A. Degree in Business. Following college, he spent several years in department store management before transferring to Logansport, Indiana in 1947. While residing in Logansport, he became a Life Insurance Agent for the Prudential Life Insurance Company retiring in 1976. He was a longtime member of the Logansport Rotary Club and an avid golfer. During his high school years in New York he was the New York City Junior Golf Champion. John was also a member of the Christian Science Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy (Capron) Schmidt in 1983. Also a very special friend Georgia Littman.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law: Joan & Richard Mote of Union City, Indiana; son and daughter in law: Henry Capron & Linda Schmidt of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren: Timothy Schmidt, Susan Schmidt, Eric Schmidt, Keith Mote, Miranda Wallick and Molly Mote. Also 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Immanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery Bellows Falls, Vermont.
