Connie Schmidt Waggoner passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011. She fought a courageous battle with lung cancer and was able to be at home when she was called home to be with God. Connie had moved to Troy after the passing of her first husband Charles F. Schmidt, Jr. in 2003.
She remarried on July 7, 2007 to Charles E. Waggoner. She enjoyed the last years of her life surrounded by beautiful trees and waters that surrounded their homes in Troy and Montezuma. Connie was born to James Robert and Ina Mae (Engle) Brown in Winchester, Indiana in 1949. She was preceded in death by both parents and her first husband Charles Schmidt, Jr.
She was an avid learner, with degrees from Edison State Community College, Capital University and Central Michigan University. Connie had a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University. Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Business Management from Capital University and also Associate Degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. She was certified by the American College of Medical Practice Executives. As a medical administrator, she was very active in building new medical centers, including an Imaging Center in Muncie, IN and a Cancer Center in Bakersfield, CA. She received numerous awards over the years including a national HERA award from Wyeth-Ayerst recognizing her achievements in womens and childrens health care.
A respected administrator, teacher, advisor and loving mother of two, she dedicated her life to the rearing and education of her children. She enjoyed traveling, volunteering at church, tending flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren. Connie was a member and very active at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville and attended Community Bible Church in Tipp City and Montezuma Methodist Church in Montezuma.
She is survived by her current husband, Charles Waggoner; her children, Kimberly (Eric) Steele of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and Emily (Mark McDaniel) Schmidt of Greenville, Ohio. The light of her life were her three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Daisy Schmidt, Kaylee Mae McDaniel and Isaiah Keegan McDaniel. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Nina Fouts of Troy, Evelyn (Jon) Warner of Hilliard, twin brother, Lonnie (Debbie) Brown of Hilliard, Donna (Tom) Eyerman of Phoenix, Jeff (Dee) Schmidt of Greenville and Sandra Marker of Greenville. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a service held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 114 East 4th St., Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 5-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.
