Rodney J. Derr, 82, of Greenville, and formerly of Union City, OH, passed away early Thursday morning March 10, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville.
He was born February 19, 1929 in Darke County, Ohio, son of the late Carl and Treva (Riegle) Derr. In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his 1st wife Maxine Derr, brothers, Roscoe Derr, Lloyd Derr, a sister, Gaynell (Derr) Steele; and nieces, Patty Lou Gerstner and Peggy George.
A veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean Conflict, Rodney was retired from the former Sheller- Globe in Union City where he had worked as a tool and die maker. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Union City, IN, and was a graduate of Eastside High School in Union City, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Wanda (Wright) Fultz-Derr, whom he married October 12, 1996; daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Warrell of Ansonia, Cindy (Dave) Davis of Union City, IN; grandchildren, Angie (Garth) Knick, Jason Leedom, Sarah (Matt) Hines, Christina (Sergio) Meranda, David A. Davis: great grandchildren, Casey Knick, Kylie Knick, Kaylee Leedom, Kayled Leedom, Nikolai Leedom, Selena Davis, Dylan Davis, Makayla Davis, Lucas Davis; and nieces and nephews, Becky (David) George, Patty (Joe) Jackson, Nancy Camacho, Dick George, and Tom (Gina) Derr.
A celebration of life with full Military Honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held Saturday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
