William (Bill) Blaine, age 88 of Chestnut Village Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:50 AM Saturday January 20, 2018 at Reid Health Care of Richmond, Indiana. He was born November 2, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio and the son of the late Harold and Mary (Collins) Blaine.
Bill is survived by his wife Joan (Stewart) Blaine of Greenville. They were married May 25, 1952. Also their 5 children: Susan Crawford and Carol Betts of Big Rapids, Michigan; Mike Blaine of Tipp City, Ohio; Rick (Kim) Blaine of Phillipsburg, Ohio and Beverly (Scott) Leet of Reed, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers Don (Sue) Blaine of Alpharetta, Georgia and Jack (Rita) Blaine of Lancaster Court House, Virginia; sister Ronda (Ron) Bailey of Centerville, Ohio, sister-in-law Marlene Blaine of Vandalia and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Bob Blaine and sister Sondra.
Bill graduated from Brookville Ohio High School in 1948 and enlisted in the US Air Force. After discharge he married Joan and went to work for Rexall Drug Company, where he retired as Midwest Sales Manager after 16 years. He then moved to Greenville, where he bought the United States Chemical Company, which he owned and operated for over 30 years. He was a Director of Second National Bank for 29 years and a member of the Greenville Rotary Club for almost 50 years and was past president. He had also served as a director of numerous other local boards. With his wife Joan, they were members of the Dayton Friendship Force since 1999, serving as a director and treasurer for 10 years before being appointed to the International organization as Interim President, and then International Director, 2 years as treasurer and 2 years as International Chairman. He was also awarded the Alumni Association Outstanding Award from Brookville High School, Life Member of the Dayton Friendship Force and the prestigious Wayne Smith (founder) Award from the International Friendship Force for saving the club from bankruptcy during his tenure. Bill and Joan were avid travelers, having traveled to over 45 countries worldwide as well as all 50 states. They retired in 2005 to the Brethren Retirement Community. Bill and Joan are very active members of the St. John Lutheran Church of Greenville.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday January 25, 2018 in the St. John Lutheran Church 7418 State Route 121-N Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Brian McGee officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the St. John Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 AM until time of the services in the church.
