Wilmer J. “Buck” Bey age 90, of Versailles passed away peacefully in his sleep at 8:23 AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Versailles Health Care Center.
Wilmer was born September 14, 1927, in Darke County to the late Clarence D. & Ursina (Gigandet) Bey. In addition to his parents, Wilmer was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. (Stutz) Bey on January 8, 2009 whom he married July 7, 1951; son-in-law, Wally Bartram; brothers, Carl & Jerome Bey; sister, Ruth Lennartz; and brothers-in-law, Louis Lennartz and Donald Stutz.
Wilmer is survived by a daughter, Darlene Bartram of Versailles; son & companion, Steve Bey & Rhonda Poling of Versailles; grandchildren, Bryan & Amy Bartram, Lance & Kari Bartram and Gunnar Bartram; great-grandchildren, Zac, Alayna, Hayden, Ayla, Lucy, Camry & Rayna; sisters & brothers-in-law, Marlene & Les McCullough of Ansonia and Thelma & Mark Jutte of Ft. Recovery; sisters-in-law, Donna Bey of Greenville, Loretta Bey of Versailles, Twila Bevins of Greenville and Carolyn Temte of Sequim, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilmer served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Carl Subler Trucking in Versailles where he was a truck driver. Wilmer was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and Osgood American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and great-grandchildren. Wilmer loved going to Houghton Lake with his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard.
