Cecil C. Shaw, 97, of Ansonia, passed away early Friday morning, September 4, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
He was born in Woodington, son of the late Louis C. and Georgia (Brown) Shaw. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Alice (Sholley) Shaw on December 21, 2001; a son Stephen C. Shaw; 2 grandsons, Scottie and Steven Martin, a granddaughter, Sharon Runner; sisters, Helen Cross and Donna Brooks; and brothers, Jerry and Robert Shaw.
Cecil was a 1930 graduate of Ansonia High School. He was a retired farmer as well as an assistant mail carrier and retired from the State of Ohio as a Technical Bridge Engineer. He was a longtime member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church, the Brown Township Grange and had served on the Ansonia School Board as president. His greatest joys were family get togethers, farming, church activities and singing.
He is survived by 4 daughters, Chris (Jim) McNally of Springboro, Patricia Copeland of Middletown, Janet (Jack) runner of Camino, CA, and Diana (friend Troy Green) Haney of Ansonia; daughter-in-law, Linda Shaw of Arizona; grandchildren, Mike Runner, Jeff (Sallie) Runner, Greg (Renee) Runner, Chad Copeland, Kyle (Carol) Copeland, Lance Copeland, Ted (Joni) Robinson, Michelle (Mike) Alt, Stephanie (Randy) Mestemaker, Angie (Aaron) Clingerman, Matt (Michele) Shaw, Josh Shaw, Nathan Shaw and Dawn (Dennis) Roberts; 7 step grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 step great great grandchild.
Services will be Held Wednesday, September 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ansonia United Methodist Church with the Revs. Peggy Cromer and Mary Sandberg co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Ansonia United Methodist Church or State of the Heart Hospice.
