Caroline Singer (March 29, 2021)

Caroline Singer, 102, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Oakley Place in Greenville.

She was born on March 25, 1919, in Greenville to the late Riley and Hazel (Ross) Dininger.

In addition to her parents, Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Singer, whom she married on June 22, 1946; her son, Dwain Singer; and her brother, J.R. Dininger.

When Caroline was young, she had polio which resulted in her having a damaged leg. However, she never let that injury affect her work ethic. She loved working in the fields and helping on the farm with her husband and four boys. She milked cows, raised hogs and chickens, and drove tractors and grain trucks until her 70s. Although she gave up driving truck, Caroline still helped move equipment around the farm until her mid-90s.

Although she spent most of her life working on the farm, Caroline did work for the Civilian Defense during the war for 4 years at Patterson Field, now known as Wright-Patt. Caroline loved the Great Darke County Fair and has attended 99 fairs: only missing two due to the polio and COVID outbreak. During the mid-1960s, Caroline worked at the fair in the cattle barn and was the superintendent of the sheep barn for many years.

Up till age 99, Caroline lived by herself until she had to move into an assisted living facility in Greenville. Caroline was the official silverware wrapper at the Oakley Place. She wrapped them every day, three times a day until a few weeks ago. Caroline was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Caroline is survived by her sons, Jack (Donna) Singer of Troy, Ohio, Joe (Chevone) Singer of Greenville, and Dave (Staci) Singer of Greenville; her grandchildren, Kelly Lynn, Sheryl Ann, Susan (Gregg) McCrabb, Larry (Pam) Wilson, Bryan (Theresa) Singer, Colleen (Singer) Delery, Maria Singer, Steven (Kristy) Singer, Morgan Singer, Carl Singer, Kim (Dan) Trostel, and Kyt (Matt) Hart; and her many great and great-great grandchildren.

A private funeral service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery.

The family will be receiving guest on Thursday, April 1, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.
