Linda K. McGuire (November 25, 2017)

Linda K. McGuire age 70, of Greenville passed away at 11:37 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

Linda was born November 5, 1947, in Montgomery County, Ohio to the late Clarence Hogue and Mary K. (Kagey) Hogue. In addition to her parents, Linda was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gene McGuire.

Linda is survived by her husband of 40 years, William “Dale” McGuire whom she married March 25, 1972; brothers-in-law, Craig & Cindy McGuire of Greenville and Larry McGuire of Greenville; sister-in-law, Carolyn McGuire of Greenville; family friend, Carla Bubp-Hill of Rossburg; best friends, Judy & Ben Hardy of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda retired from GTI in Greenville and formerly worked at Lambert Corporation in Ansonia.

Barbara Potter (November 27, 2017)

Barbara Potter, 64, of Greenville, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Wayne Health Care in Greenville.

She was born on February 6, 1953 in Greenville, to the late Harry and Florence Elliott.

Barbara was a kind person and an admirer of nature. She loved all animals and enjoyed spending time in the mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She was involved in 4-H for many years. Barbara was a member of the Greenville Moose and was active with the Women of the Moose. She and Russ enjoyed attending Founders Day at Mooseheart and supporting all the children in need. Barbara’s main focus was her family. She would do anything for her children and grandchildren; they were her world.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 42 years, Russell Potter, Jr., whom she married June 7, 1975; seven children and their spouses, Russell and Tina Potter, III, of Greenville, Chad and Tiffany Potter of Greenville, Jessie and Larry Smith of Greenville, Ben and Margarita Potter of Union City, Ohio, Allen and Allyssa Potter of Magnolia, Delaware, Matt Potter of Greenville, and Tyler Potter of Greenville; one step-daughter and her spouse, Marci and Bob Sease of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Lorrie, Austyn, Bethany, Andrew, Toby, Haylee, Taylor, Caleb, Kristina, Leonardo, and Luciella; one step-grandchild, Ashely; and one great grandchild, Mattix; her sister, Betty Mikesell of New Madison; her brothers, Darryl and LaJeanne Burk of Greenville, and Leon Burk of Florida; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.

Bernadette E. Shawler (November 27, 2017)

Bernadette E. Shawler, age 94, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 9:35 AM at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, Ohio. She was born on August 18, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Urban & Mary (Poly) Berger.

She is survived by her sisters, Mona Lou Blakeley and Adela Hoke both of Versailles; sister in law, Elsie Berger of Versailles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Bob” Shawler; infant brother, Jerome Berger; brothers, Donald Berger and Romaine Berger; and sister, Drucilla McNeal.

Bernadette worked at Enpo Pump Company in Piqua, Ohio, for 38 years. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church. She was a 1941 graduate of Versailles High School and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, Ohio, with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant and Rev. Fr. Jim Duell concelebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 5-7 PM as well as on Saturday from 9-10 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.

Susan Kay Wilson age 70, of Union City, Indiana passed away at 6:15 AM on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.

Susan was born May 3, 1947, in Adrian, Michigan to the late Kenneth E. & Roxie A. (Benhouwer) Wilson. In addition to her parents, Susan was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Wilson.

Susan is survived by her children, Teresa Melchor of Union City, Indiana and Manuel Melchor III of Dayton; grandchildren, Jordan Thomas, Maya Melchor, Sergio Melchor, Carlos Melchor, Emilio Melchor, Ayden Melchor, Manuel Melchor IV, Sammy Melchor, Maria Melchor, Willow Melchor and Leland Melchor; and sisters, Norma Wilson Miller of Adrian, Michigan and Linda Wilson Hess of Adrian, Michigan.

Susan retired from Whirlpool Corporation in Greenville.

Dixie Jo Thompson (November 25, 2017)

Dixie Jo Thompson, age 68, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 3:35 PM at her residence. She was born on September 1, 1949 in Darke County, Ohio, to Etheldean (Grote) Rhoades of Bradford, Ohio, and the late Lloyd Rhoades.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Michael H. Thompson of Greenville whom she married on April 28, 1968; daughter and son in law, Angela & Clarence Godwin of Greenville; son, Jason Thompson of Illinois; grandchildren, Andrew Godwin, Adam Godwin, Abby Thompson and Pierce Thompson; sister, Patricia Rhoades of Bradford; aunt, Janet Grote of Gordon, Ohio; niece, Chelsea (Tyler) Myers; great niece, Lexi Myers; as well as numerous cousins.

Dixie is preceded in death by her father; maternal grandparents, John & Goldie Grote; paternal grandparents, Roy & Luella Rhoades; aunt and uncles, Jim Grote and Ivan & Dorothy Rhoades.

Dixie worked in the banking industry and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Oakland Church of the Brethren and the American Dorper Association. She was affiliated with the Lions Club in Gettysburg and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Gettysburg. Each year Dixie enjoyed visiting the Darke County Fair. She loved the farm life and simply enjoyed the outdoors.

There will be a service held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Oakland Church of the Brethren with Pastor John Sgro and Rev. Dr. Fred Bernhard co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery, Gettysburg, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as one hour prior to the service at church.

Carolyn J. Baird Blankenship, 92 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2017 at 6:40 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born July 31, 1925 in St. Mary’s Ohio the daughter of the late James Richard & Mabel (Jobes) Baird. She was a volunteer. She was a member of D.A.R.; Haner Historical Society; Miami County Historical Society; Genealogy Society; Studebaker Family National Association; Fort Rowdy Museum.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Forrest L. Blankenship; sisters: Beatrice Campbell, Mary Alice Folkerth, and Janice Moggie.

She is survived by her children: Beverly Rush, Leslie Vicedo, & Audrey Walther; grandchildren: Mark Rush, Nicole (Rush) Lowder, Rick Vicedo, Susan Vicedo, Michael Vicedo, & Tammy Smith-Firestone; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother: Richard Baird; sister: Jane Silva.

Brenda L. Spurlock age 79, of Greenville passed away at 4:33 PM on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Brenda was born March 19, 1938 in Greenville to the late Emerson & Mildred (Miller) Reed.

Brenda retired from Fram Corporation in Greenville. She was a life member of the Greenville Moose, Golden Eagle member of the Greenville Eagles and a life-long member of the Greenville Alumni Association.

She was born September 18, 1939 in St. Charles, Virginia the daughter of the late Nick Krovich & Vona (McElyea) Krovich McCraken. She was a waitress and Sheumeths and the Fairlawn. She enjoyed making crafts and gardening and loved flowers.

Robin (Bunger) Colvin (November 24, 2017)

Robin (Bunger) Colvin, 53, of New Madison, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

She was born November 8, 1964 in Greenville, Ohio the daughter of Donna Shank of New Madison and Ron Shank of Ithaca.

Robin was preceded in death by her daughter, Jessica Colvin.

Robin enjoyed being in the woods mushroom hunting and digging root with her father, camping and fishing. Most of all Robin loved being with her family and her grandsons.

Robin is survived by her husband of 20 years, James E. “Rozie” Colvin of New Madison, whom she married September 5, 1997; her son, Jared Colvin of New Madison; and her grandchildren, Dillon and Elijah.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

Keith Burns (November 23, 2017)

Keith Burns, 87 of New Madison, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

He was born June 16,1930 in Miami County, Ohio, the son of the late Horace and Edith (Starr) Burns.

In addition to his parents, Keith is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Burns; his sister, Treva Wackler; and his brother, Roger “Bud” Burns.

Keith attended Butler Schools and was a 1948 graduate of New Madison High School. He was a longtime businessman in New Madison, where he owned and operated Burns Sohio Service Station. He was a past auctioneer and real estate agent.

Keith is survived by his children, Sherry (Steve) Hubler of Cedarville, Kent Burns of New Madison, Kris (Shelly) Burns of New Madison, and Kraig Burns of New Madison; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; step-daughters and their spouses, Jane (Loren) Bice of Norwalk, California and Julie (Mike) Johnson of Carson City, Nevada; 6 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law; Dewane (Martha) Burns of Grand Haven, Michigan; sister-in-law, Romana “Dote” Burns of Piqua; and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Hilbert E. Piel (November 23, 2017)

Rev. Hilbert E. Piel, 84, of Arcanum, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

He was born October 24,1933 in Cortland, Indiana, the son of the late Rev. Frank and Louisa (Krueger) Piel.

In addition to his parents, Hilbert was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Gary, and Theodore Piel; and his sisters, Dorothea Piel, Ruth Mill, and Hildegard Hildebrand.

Hilbert was a 1951 graduate of Waite High School in Toledo. After graduating high school he went to Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and then Trinity Lutheran Seminary also in Columbus. After graduating from seminary school he began his more than 50-years of service to the ministry. He served at Zion Lutheran Church in Sunman, Indiana, First English Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg, Ohio, Trinity Lutheran Church in Pitsburg, Ohio, St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Ithaca, Ohio, St. John Lutheran Church in Piqua, Ohio, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Willowdell, Ohio. After retiring, he served as an interim pastor at several churches in the area and helped Mary at the Village Flower Shop in Arcanum. He enjoyed restoring pump organs and old Pontiac cars. Hilbert was a humble servant of God and he always put other people first. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and his family and pets were his world.

Hilbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Droessler) Piel of Arcanum, whom he married June 10, 1955; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim (Beth) Piel of Arcanum; his daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Piel and Jack Kuhn of Arcanum, Debbie (Gene) Niekamp of Versailles and Elizabeth (Perry) Schiller of Tipp City; grandchildren, Jessica Ellen (Nate) Pahl, Joel (Kara) Niekamp, Adam Schiller, Leah Schiller, Alex Niekamp, and Taylor Piel; great grandchildren, Alysson Pahl, Hailey Pahl, and Logan Niekamp; brother, Luther Piel of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister, Thelma Fuller of Toledo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends may visit on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 2-7 PM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville and one-hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8520 Oakes Road, Pitsburg, Ohio with Bishop Suzanne Dillahunt, Pastor Laura Schreffler, and Pastor Melvin Musser officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery.

Mike Buschur (November 22, 2017)

Mike Buschur, age 52 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:25 AM Wednesday November 22, 2017 at the State of the Heart Care Center Greenville, Ohio. Mike was born April 7, 1965 in Jay County, Indiana and the son of Larry and Sandy (Reichard) Buschur of Greenville.

Mike had been employed at Fram Corporation for the past 6 years and prior was the manager of the family owned Colony Restaurant formerly located in downtown Greenville.

He was an avid University of Michigan sports fan and an avid golfer having played in several Senior Pro-Am Golf tournaments. He was also a member of the former Greenville Country Club, a 1983 graduate of Greenville Senior High School and enjoyed fishing.

Mike’s survivors in addition to his parents are sister Deb (Todd) Hart of York, South Carolina, fiancé Vicki Phillips, her children Brian (Chane) Phillips and T.J. (Nikki) Phillips and their children Kyle Phillips, Haven Phillips, Anson Phillips and Kasen Phillips all of Greenville as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Myers officiating.

Katelyn Kenworthy, 23, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017.

She was born February 3, 1994 in Greenville, the daughter of the late Bridgett (Ewing) Kenworthy and David Christina Kenworthy of Oaklawaha, Florida.

Katelyn was employed by Kelly Services and was working at Whirlpool in Greenville. She was currently a student at Edison State.

In addition to her father and step-mother, Katelyn is survived by her brothers, Dustin Kenworthy of Greenville, Benjamin Mendenhall of Dayton, and Phillip Cote’ of Florida; her sisters, Carissa Pendegraft, Shyann Gilbert of Sidney, Sarah Smith of Indiana and Cheyenne Hawkins of Florida; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Thomas Michael (Mike) Randall (November 20, 2017)

Thomas Michael (Mike) Randall, age 83, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 9:14 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017.

Mike was born April 9, 1934, in Greenville, Ohio to the late E.R. (Red) Randall and Lenore Randall Stevens. He was preceded in death by son William M. Randall.

Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne B. Randall; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and David A. Smith of Aiken, SC; sons Patrick D. and Cheri Randall of Houston, TX; and John A. and Annette Randall of Greenville, OH; grandchildren Shawn, Zachary, Nicole, Ben, Lauren, and Alec Randall; and great grandchildren Jazalynn, Jersee, Madison, and Jaxson.

Mike was the sitting president of Randall Insurance Agency, Inc. in Greenville, and served as past president of Darke County Chamber of Commerce, Darke County Family YMCA, Darke County United Way, and Community Improvement Corporation. He was also retired Director and Chairman of the Board of Greenville National Bancorp. Mike was a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and served in the United States Navy.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Zechar, Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio.

Phyllis Jean (Koeller) Knick, age 87, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 6:50 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on May 2, 1930 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Charles & Eva (Melling) Koeller.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Kenny Knick of Greenville, Ohio, Pam (Dick) Rhoades of Greenville, Ohio, Peggy (George) Wilson of Zanesville, Ohio, Terri (Wendell) Brotherwood of Greenville, Ohio, and Steve (Susan) Knick of Somerset, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Pauline (Donald) Horner of Greenville and Beverly McDade of Piqua, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne W. Knick whom she married on July 24, 1948; siblings, Howard Koeller, Junior Koeller, Ellen Hines and Joanne Alspaugh.

Phyllis retired in 2009 from the Brethren Retirement Community after 19 years of service.

Bill was born January 31, 1942, in Darke County to the late Alfred L. & Treva A. (Treon) Pierron. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Joe Pierron; nephews, Mike Pleiman and Tim Eilerman; and in-laws, Leo & Virginia Drees.

Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rosemarie A. “Rosie” (Drees) Pierron whom he married June 12, 1971; special family, Theresa & Ed Minnich of Versailles and Tori & Emmitt; brothers & sisters-in-law, Dick & Ruth Pierron of Versailles, Tom & Judy Pierron of Versailles, Larry & Cheryl Pierron of Versailles and Marvin & Jane Pierron of Versailles; sisters-in-law, Mary Pierron of Osgood and Boots Pierron of Versailles; in-laws, Mary Jean & Neal Pleiman of Osgood and Richard & Karen Drees of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill retired in 2004 from Clopay in Russia with 32 years of service. He also formerly worked at Marshal’s Poultry Farm in Versailles, the Village of Versailles and Argosy in Versailles. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles. Bill was the 1st manager for Bill Ahrens Softball Team in 1972; he played and managed softball until he was 48. Bill was an avid camper, loved playing cards and the joy of his life was Tori.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 24, 2017, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Duell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Martha Jane (Mikesell, Hubler) Herron (November 17th, 2017)

Martha Jane (Mikesell, Hubler) Herron passed away Friday November 17th. She was born in Hollansburg, OH. She was preceded by her parents Lewis "Dynamite" Mikesell and Irene (Spencer) Mikesell and five brothers, Bradley (Teva deceased), Lloyd (Betty), Joe, Larry (Roseanne) and Sam (Wendy). She is survived by brothers, Tom (Joyce), Terry (Tim) and Don (Charlene); sisters, Joan Brubaker (Bill), Ellen Snyder (Gene), Caroline Hankins (Bill) and Kathy Tackitt (Don).

She is survived by her children, Gale Faust, Jodie Mangan (Greg), Mark Hubler (Melissa); step children, John Herron, Nancy Creel (James) and Kristin Seay (Jon); four grandchildren, Jonathan Hubler, Anthony Hubler, Conner Hubler and Cameron Hubler; one step grandchild, Isaac Gonzales (Hannah); and a great step grandchild Lydia.

She was a devout Christian and a member of Bible Fellowship Church in Greenville, Oh.

She lived with her daughters and son-in-law in Knoxville, TN for the last seventeen months.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Bible Fellowship Church 7757 Greenville Celina Rd. Greenville with Pastor Scott Gruber officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Ft. Jefferson. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. James “Kearney” Pequignot (November 18, 2017)

James “Kearney” Pequignot age 71, of Tipp City passed away at 2:35 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at his residence.

Kearney was born December 22, 1945, in Greenville to the late Hubert G. & Naomi (Swartz) Pequignot. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Peg Baltes and Patricia Rauckhorst.

Kearney is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Taylor) Pequignot whom he married May 15, 1969; sons & daughter-in-law, William Pequignot of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Thomas & Amy Pequignot serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Bailey Pequignot, Drew Pequignot and Alex Pequignot; sisters & brothers-in-law, Kay & Ed Coons of Versailles and Jeanne & Jack Turpen of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kearney served in the U.S. Navy detached to the 1st Marine Division as a Corpsman during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipp City. He formerly served as Commissioner and Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Duell celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with full Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Phillip R. Chatwood, Sr. (November 15, 2017)

Phillip R. Chatwood, Sr. of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born January 31, 1948 in Springfield, Ohio, son of Albert and Mary (Scholles) Chatwood.

After graduating from Springfield South High School in 1967, he received his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Wright State University. He was employed by National Trails School District until his retirement in 2010 where he served as a science teacher and school counselor. He was a National Board Certified Counselor and served as a board member and past board president of the Recovery and Wellness Centers of Midwest Ohio. He was a Charter Alumnae of WSU, and a member of OEA/NEA Retired, the Ohio Academy of Science and the American Chemical Society.

Phillip is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sharon (Haas) Chatwood ; children, Lisa (James) Garrity of Loveland, Ohio, Phillip (Stephanie) Chatwood, Jr. of Springfield, Ohio, Jonathan (Kaitlyn) Chatwood of Auburn, Washington and Adam Chatwood of Greenville; grandchildren, Nolan and Clara Garrity and Elizabeth and Grant Chatwood; brother, Albert John (Barbara) Chatwood of Enon, Ohio; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Chatwood of Springfield, Ohio and Christina Erickson of West Jefferson, Ohio; goddaughter, Lynnette Myers; in-laws, Susan (William) Mills, Glen (Karen) Haas, James (Dorothy) Haas, and Catherine (Michael) Kauffman; and several nieces and nephews.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Stephen Chatwood, and his brother-in-law James Erickson.

On Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, a visitation will be held for family and friends beginning at 11:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 1:00 PM with Rev. Donald Myers officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Greenville Cemetery.
