Thomas Eugene Varvel (September 3, 2020)

Thomas Eugene Varvel, age 74 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 9:23 AM at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.  Born in Xenia, Ohio on May 9, 1946 he was one of 6 children to the late Harry J. & June C. (Stephens) Varvel. Tom was a proud United States Navy veteran, and had served in the Vietnam War. He served his country from 1964- 1974. He was a member of the Greenville VFW; American Legion; Moose Lodge; and Eagles. More than anything, he loved to spend time with his family. He will truly be missed. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother David Varvel: brother-in-laws Kenneth “Red” Adams; Don Comer; Craig Allread: nephew David Allread.

Survived by his siblings Steve Varvel; Sharon Adams; Connie Allread; Sandy Comer: sister-in-law Janice Byrd: special friends Ronnie Enicks; Larry McGuire: as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service for Tom on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Greenville Union Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio.  Due to the pandemic, masks are recommended for those attending. Floren (Chris) Christman (August 30th, 2020)

Floren (Chris) Christman passed away peacefully while visiting his daughter, Terri Wild, in her home in Miami, Florida on August 30th, 2020 at the age of 86.  

He is survived by his cherished friend, Darlene Ryan, daughters; Kim Brandt (Indianapolis, IN) and Terri Wild (Tom) in Miami, FL, grandchildren Amanda(Matt)Schonk and Jason (Shelby) Borthwick in Indianapolis, IN and Tyler (Grace)Wild and Sophie Wild of Orlando, FL, as well as great-grandchildren Millie, Calvin, Henry & Sullivan Schonk and Scarlett and Barrett Borthwick all residing in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born and raised in Galion, Ohio. Shortly after graduating from high school, he started a job that involved repairing railroad cars while they traveled. He met his wife, Myrna Brandt as the train came thru Versailles on a routine basis.  They eventually married and he settled in Versailles to start his career and family in the mid-fifties.

Chris was a very devoted husband and father.  He loved the Lord, his family and the beautiful land (farm) that he had in Versailles, Ohio. He owned a small construction company building houses and remodeling and farmed as well.  He was known for helping anyone at any time and for such a giving and loyal heart.  He just loved to be with family and friends, and everyone was welcome in his home. He did not know a stranger. He enjoyed the long summer visits from his daughter, Terri that would come to the farm often with the entire family during her summer break from teaching as well as the weekends that his daughter, Kim came over from nearby Indianapolis, especially to put out an exceptionally large garden and can tomato juice for the winter enjoyment. The pond on his farm attracted so many that enjoyed fishing, and he so enjoyed those that came to fish, even their big fish stories! 

A showing will be held at the Ansonia Methodist Church on Friday, September 11th at 1 o’clock with a service starting at 2 o’clock.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Marion Michael Lyme (September 1, 2020)

Marion Michael Lyme age 71, of Ansonia passed away at 1:50 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. 

Mike was born November 13, 1948, in Greenville, to Norman E. Lyme of Versailles and the late Thelma I. (Brown) Lyme.

In addition to his father, Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon K. (Staver) Lyme whom he married May 26, 1968; children, Michael Lyme of Columbus, Lori Fitzpatrick of Reynoldsburg and Jeff & Nicole Lyme of Versailles; grandchildren, Caroline Fitzpatrick of Reynoldsburg and William Fitzpatrick of Reynoldsburg; and his dog, Lily. 

Mike was a 1967 graduate of Ansonia High School. Mike served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from LC&P in Troy where he worked over 25 years. Mike was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Greenville and the Ansonia American Legion.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with President Jeff Yantis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles with full military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Michael Keith Adams, Sr. (August 30, 2020)

Michael Keith Adams, Sr., 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio.

He was born on October 16, 1940, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Joseph Elton and Helen Dorthy (Hutton) Adams.

In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Adams.

Keith was an avid outdoorsman. He loved tending to his yard and garden at his home and making sure it was in top-notch shape. Keith liked hunting arrowheads, going fishing, hiking, and coloring. Keith loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events and other activities. Keith was an avid Ohio State Buckeye's fan and liked to watch NASCAR. Keith and his wife, Rosie, attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. He worked as a Pharmacy Clerk for over 40 years at Bonfiglio’s until they closed. He then went to work at Medicine and More in Greenville as a clerk until his passing.

Keith is survived by his wife, Rosie (Bonfiglio) Adams, whom he married on May 30, 1960; his children, Mike Adams of Greenville, Lisa Theard and Joshua Miller of Fairfield, and Jenni and Benjamin Schlater of Greenville; his grandchildren, Zachary Keith and Alexandria Barbay Theard of Fairfield, and Trevor Adam and Nicklaus David Brumbaugh of Greenville; his 5 step grandchildren; and his brother, Jan Adams.

A celebration of Keith’s life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus with Deacon Thomas Graber officiating.

Guests may visit with his family on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mask will be required, and social distancing will be expected of those who are attending Keith’s services.

June A. Strobel (August 26, 2020)

June A. Strobel, age 93 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:45 AM Wednesday August 26, 2020 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home of Greenville.  June was born January 19, 1927 in Piqua, Ohio and the daughter of the late William and Nellie Jane (Davison) Prasuhn.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Greenville and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, traveling, gardening, spending time outdoors and special time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James R. “Cook” Strobel December 17, 2015.  They were married August 2, 1947.  Also her children Larry Joe Strobel Sr., Merrian Strobel, Ronnie Strobel, Rhonda Strobel and Patricia Strobel; grandson Daniel Strobel;  sisters Doris Finn, Phyllis VonNagy, Janet Steen, Wanda Lee Rismiller and Linna Peters; brothers Dale Prasuhn and Henry Prasuhn.

June is survived by her grandsons Larry Joe (Myra) Strobel Jr. of Rushville, Indiana and Alex (Lindsay) Logan of Jacksonville, North Carolina, 7 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday September 4, 2020 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Don Myer officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. John Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday 1 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Edward G. Brown (August 29, 2020)

Edward G. Brown, 92, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Van Crest Nursing Home in Eaton, Ohio.

He was born on March 2, 1928, in Racine, Wisconsin, to the late Norman and Della (Nichols) Brown.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Donald A. Brown; his sister, Barbara J. Brown; and his nephew, Michael A. Brown.

Edward entered the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving as a Fireman Second Class on the USS YFD 6. Upon honorable discharge in 1947, he entered the U.S. Army for two years, serving as a Corporal in the general army. Edward had a passion for flying and was a flight instructor for single engine aircraft. He worked at the East Richmond Airport for many years. Edward was also a farmer for many years and operated a trucking service before retiring.

Edward is survived by his wife of 70 years, Miriam L. (Knox) Brown; his four sons, Ed (Barb) Brown of Eaton, David (Linda) Brown of Germantown, Ohio, Doug (Tammy) Brown of New Madison, Ohio, and Robert (Brenda) Brown of Greenville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Christie Barker, Kelly (Matt) Pease, Anthony (Kim) Brown, Kimberly (Jesse) Cunningham, Laura Melling, Justin Brown, Doug Brown, and Tiffany (Nick) Thomas and Lindsey (James) Allen; his 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow.

Donald L Marchal (August 29, 2020)

Donald L Marchal, 74, of Newport, Ohio passed away at Miami Valley Hospital on August 29, 2020 following complications from a July 25, 2020 motorcycle accident.  

He was born on April 5, 1946 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Norbert and Evelyn (Perin) Marchal.  On August 26, 1967, he married Edith Looker at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia, Ohio.  Edith survives in Newport. 

Surviving are his daughter, Melissa (William) Hurlds, Union City, three sons; Gregory Marchal, Ansonia, James Marchal, Sidney, and Robert (Carmen) Marchal, Fort Recovery.  He is also survived by three brothers; Robert Marchal, Luzerne, MI, Delbert Marchal, New Knoxville, and Larry Joe Marchal, Piqua, and one sister; Carolyn (Tom) Klopfenstein, Russia.  He is also survived by three sister-in-laws; Vivian (Tim) Belt, Carol Ann (Tom) Stiver, and Betty Blue all of Sidney, and a brother-in-law John (Kathy) Looker of Mason.

Don was also survived by 12 grandchildren; Shawn, Ashley, Ciera, Shawn, Devin, Peytin, Sadrin, Brandon, Bryce, Christian, Caden, and Matthew.  Also surviving are 8 great grandchildren; Joseph, Alexis, Wyatt, Ryder, James, Emberlee, Nadya, and Evangeline.  

He was preceded in death by his father and mother - in- law; Carl and Waneta Looker, a brother, Edward Marchal, and a sister-in-law Ann Wendel.

Donald was a business owner and painted houses prior to his retirement.  He belonged to the YMCA in Versailles and the Mercer County Indian Relic Collectors Society for the past 30 years.  

Donald enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, fishing, mushroom hunting, arrowhead hunting, and exercising at the YMCA.  One of his favorite pastimes was afternoon drives with his wife, Edith to explore and enjoy the countryside.  He also loved to dress up as Santa Claus for different communities at Christmas.

The family will receive friends from 3pm - 8pm on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, Ohio.  Donald will be cremated per his wishes and buried at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio.  Contributions can be made to his wife, Edith Marchal to help cover medical costs.

Glenna E. Batten (August 27, 2020)

Glenna E. Batten age 84, of Arcanum passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Glenna was born March 9, 1936, in Darke County to the late George H. & Evalee (Stocker) Eubank. In addition to her parents, Glenna was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry R. Batten on November 12, 2016, whom she married September 24, 1960; sister, Sharon Shuttleworth; brother, George M. Eubank; and brothers-in-law, Eugene Shuttleworth, James Delk, Howard Best and Merle Henson.

Glenna is survived by her children, Douglas (Linda Robinson) Batten of Richmond, Indiana and Jeffrey (Jeanne) Batten of Englewood; grandchildren, Katie Batten, LaNelle (Rick Shroyer) Batten, Camron (Tia) Batten, Liam Batten, Colin Batten, Chastity (CJ) Crutcher and Christina (Ronnie) Burdge; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Henson of Clintonville, West Virginia, Lois Delk of Greenville and Sue Best of Castine; sister-in-law, Faye Eubank of Lebanon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Glenna’s family has a special nephew that we have loved very much, but have not had the opportunity to learn to know very well.

Glenna retired from Bank One of Dayton in 1993 and taught piano lessons for 45 years. Glenna was a member of Woodington Congregational Christian Church, Sunday school teacher for several years and started the youth choir. She started playing the piano at church at the age of 10 and played the piano for Joyful Noise Woman’s Trio and Gospel Light Quintet. Glenna had a severe case of paralytic polio in 1944. Over the years she did as much as she could to overcome the complications and side effects. Thank you to those that helped Glenna the past 3 years to do the things she was not able to do: Lois Delk, Sherry Dirksen, Jeff Batten, Diana Reeder and other friends she may not have remembered.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Harve Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Ft. Annabel M. Subler (August 30, 2020)

Annabel M. Subler age 103, of Versailles passed away at 12:00 PM on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at Versailles Healthcare Center.

Annabel was born May 24, 1917, in Shelby County to the late Ernest A. & Cora V. (Boham) Apple. In addition to her parents, Annabel was also preceded in death by her husband, Basil C. Subler on October 8, 2014, whom she married August 20, 1938; sons, Wayne Subler in infancy and John K. Subler; sisters, Kathryn Apple and June Keller; brothers, Walter, Norbert, James & Ralph Apple.

Annabel is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, James & Diana Subler of Versailles; grandchildren, James Subler Jr. of Greenville, Shane Subler of Washington, D.C., Lucas & Courtney Subler of Versailles and Lauren & Lucas Moeller of Playa Delray, California; great-grandchildren, Ryan Subler, Nathan Subler, Ariel Swerlein, Kathryn Subler, Alex Subler, Maeve Moeller and one expected soon; sisters, Betty Liddy of Piqua and Pauline Berry of Versailles; brother-in-law, Donald “Shorty” Keller of Greenville; sister-in-law, Connie Apple of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Annabel was a homemaker and was very passionate about gardening. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, Past President of the Versailles Garden Club where she was active for 25 years and Past President of the Versailles V.F.W. Ladies Auxilary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Thursday morning from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Gail F. McKnight (August 29, 2020)

Gail F. McKnight, age 72 of Rossburg, Ohio passed away at 11:03 PM Saturday August 29, 2020 at the Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio.  Gail was born July 5, 1948 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of Myrtle (Lindemuth) McKnight of Greenville and the late Robert F. McKnight who passed away December 30, 2012.

Gail was retired following many years of farming and construction work in the Darke County area.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Air Force, member of the Ansonia American Legion, the Greenville VFW and Pheasants Forever.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Leo and Katherine Prenger.

Gail is survived by his wife Nancy (Prenger) McKnight of Greenville.  They were married June 14, 1975.  Also children Jeremie F. (Lora) McKnight of Pittsburgh, PA and Ashley L. (Ryan) Rose of North Port, Florida; grandchildren Runa McKnight and Ava Rose; sister Pam (Mark) Hierholzer of Ansonia; brother Robert Kim McKnight of Greenville as well as his mother Myrtle.

There will be a Celebration of Gail’s life on Saturday September 5, 2020 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the family residence in Rossburg.

David L. “Dave” Morrow (August 23, 2020)

David L. “Dave” Morrow, age 71 of Ansonia, Ohio passed away at 6:35 PM Sunday August 23, 2020 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home of Greenville.  Dave was born April 7, 1949 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Doyle and Barbara (Tedder) Morrow.

He was a Police Office retiring from the Ansonia Police Department.  He also had served many years on both the Ansonia Fire Department and the Rescue Squad.  Dave had been involved with the Ansonia Boy Scout Troop, was blessed with beautiful handwriting and because of this talent loved to copy recipes.  He was a true outdoorsman and loved all animals particularly his dog Gracie and was a constant provider of food and shelter for many stray cats. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers-in-law Chris Armstrong and Jeff Schricker.  Also his special dog Gracie.

Dave is survived by his sisters Jennifer J. Schricker of Ansonia and Soni Armstrong of Greenville; his mom’s 2nd husband Harvey Zimmerman of Christiansburg, Ohio; half-sisters Cathy (Charlie) Clayton of Sidney, Ohio, Tionna Karns and Dave Gheen of New Carlisle and Darleen (Mark) Green of St. Paris; nieces Kelli (Jim) Nicodemus of Bradford and Laura Armstrong of Greenville; nephew Kyle Armstrong of Ansonia as well as six great nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday September 4, 2020 in the Ansonia Cemetery Ansonia, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating.

Ruby, J. Walls (August 20, 2020)

Ruby, J. Walls, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at the Brethren Retirement Community.

She was born on May 29, 1930, in Ansonia, Ohio, to the late Kenneth and Irene Walters.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Walls; her son, Todd D. Walls; and her sister, VereBelle Boolman.

Ruby grew up during the great depression, so she was used to working hard and doing without. She spent her entire life always doing for others and making sure all of us were well and happy. Mom didn’t have a lot of time for hobbies, but she did enjoy sewing, gardening, and cooking. She especially loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

She took such great care of her children, supporting them throughout their entire lives by giving them lots of unconditional love and support. She always put everyone else first and never asked anything for herself. She will be greatly missed by everyone. Without really realizing it, she taught us so much about life. Following is a quote which I like very much and it really fits what mom gave us:

Ruby is survived by her children, Penny Donath and her husband, Michael, of Bad Soden, Germany, and Amy Sise and her husband, Pete, of Palestine, Ohio; her granddaughters, Charity, Ruby Jo and Molly Walls; her grandson, Logan Lees; her great granddaughter, Jules Pahl; and her daughter-in-law, Diana Walls.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10AM on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens with Pastor Todd Reish officiating.

Frank Joseph Fullenkamp (August 27, 2020)

Frank Joseph Fullenkamp age 67, of Frenchtown passed away at 9:45 AM on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Versailles Healthcare Center. 

Frank was born March 31, 1953 in Quebec, Canada; son of the late Thomas B. & Helen M. (Berning) Fullenkamp.

Frank is survived by his wife, Karen (Osborne) Fullenkamp whom he married October 6, 1972; sons, Ryan & Abby Fullenkamp of Frenchtown and Bradley J. “Pete” Fullenkamp & Jessica Francis of Versailles; grandchildren, Shelby Fullenkamp, Bradley J. Fullenkamp Jr., Carter Fullenkamp and Reese Fullenkamp; great-grandchild, Adilyn Fullenkamp; brother & sister-in-law, David & Ann Fullenkamp of Frenchtown; nephew, Thomas Fullenkamp; and niece, Corrin & Kyle Gehle.

Frank owned and operated Fullenkamp’s Frenchtown Trailer Sales since 1993 and formerly worked at Case in Greenville for 19 years. Frank was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown; Knights of Columbus St Denis Council; Versailles Eagles and the Greenville Moose.

Donald Ray Rich (August 26, 2020)

Donald Ray Rich, 78, of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at his home.

He was born on July 18, 1942, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Esther (Ross) Rich.

Don was always full of life and enjoyed the beauties of nature. He loved to take walks, listen to the birds chirping, and sitting in the yard taking in the landscaping and all the flowers Gloria and he would plant. He had a love for old furniture and was an avid antique collector. He would find something old and worn and breath life back into it by refinishing and refurbishing it. Don served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked for many years at Corning and then GTI before retiring.

Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria, whom he married on October 19, 1963; his daughter, Machelle Rhoades of Arcanum; his grandsons, Justin and Jordan Rhoades, both of Arcanum; and his sister, Norma Delk of Arcanum.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Newcomer Cemetery on Painters Creek-Arcanum Road outside Arcanum.

Mary Joan Hiestand (August 26, 2020)

Mary Joan Hiestand, 81, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Shelby Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Sidney, Ohio.

She was born on June 11, 1939, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Robert E. Hecht and Mary E. (Riffell) Gasper.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Thobe; and her brothers, Richard, Delbert, and Bob Hecht.

Mary loved the outdoors. She spent many of her days mowing the grass, walking, and just enjoying nature's beauties. She liked spending time with her family and enjoyed playing cards and singing karaoke. Mary worked for FRAM for many years until her retirement in 2001. Most importantly, Mary was an avid blood donor and had received several awards through the Community Blood Center.

Mary is survived by her sons, Rodney Hiestand and his wife, Erica, of Sidney, Robert Hiestand, Jr. of New Weston, Ohio, and Joseph Thobe; her grandchildren, Josh Hiestand, of Florida, Stacey Hiestand of Kentucky, Tyler Hiestand of Sidney, Joe Hiestand of Sidney, Rachelle Hiestand of Sidney, Leah Hiestand of Ansonia, Jaidon Hiestand of Sidney, and Landon Black of Ansonia.

A celebration on Mary’s life will take place at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Eric Knight officiating.

Danny Eugene Bunger (August 26, 2020)

Danny Eugene Bunger age 63, of Greenville passed away at 4:42 AM on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in the ER at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville.

Danny was born December 6, 1956, in Greenville to Delores J. (Koons) Seibel of Greenville and the late David E. Bunger.

In addition to his mother, Danny is also survived by his children, April Marshal of Ansonia, Amanda Yoder of Union City, Ohio, Sarah Dickey of Greenville, Buddy Clark of Greenville and Carrie Plessinger of Greenville; grandchildren, Lacie Cates, Chris Brown, Cullen Robbins, Karmin Plessinger, Kaymen Plessinger and Trinity Clark; brothers, William Bunger of Greenville and Mark Bunger of Greenville; and sister, Nikie Savoy of Richmond, Indiana.

Danny will be dearly missed by his family, friends and “The Four Horsemen”. He enjoyed tinkering around on lawn mowers and idolized “Ric Flair”. If Danny could have chosen his final words, he would have said “this is Ric Flair signing off Wooo!!!”

Jeffrey Michael McDowell (August 24, 2020)

Jeffrey Michael McDowell, 31, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020.

He was born on September 29, 1988, to the late Michael McDowell and Melissa (Cox) Barbour.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his sister, Ashley McDowell, and his grandmother, Judy Cox.

Jeff had a love for anything mechanical and anything fast; cars, motorcycles, or bicycles. He loved to take things apart and put them back together. He could literally make anything from nothing. He was a kind person and you could always count on him if you need anything. He has touched many lives, and he will be missed by everyone who loved him.

Jeff is survived by his children, Isiah and Christian; his brothers, Christopher McDowell and his wife Tiffani, of Greenville, and Bradley McDowell and his wife Kelly, of Greenville; his step-dad, Jamie Harrington of Greenville; his grandmother, Joy McDowell; his grandfather, Monte McDowell, both of Greenville; and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service for Jeff will be held at 1 PM on Friday, August 28, 2020, at Greenville Union Cemetery.

Rev. Charles Burns Dunwoody (August 21, 2020)

Rev. Charles Burns Dunwoody, 103, of Yorkshire, Ohio, passed away at his home on Friday, August 21, 2020, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 15, 1917, in New Weston, Ohio, to the late William and Goldie (Burns) Dunwoody.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Ermil Evonne (Shope) Dunwoody in 2017; and his sister, Brida Ortner, who lived to 102 years of age.

Charles was a life-long member of the North Star Congregational Church.  He served in WWII as a Chaplain’s assistant in the 330th Regiment of the 83rd Division.  He was involved in D-Day, Northern France, Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge.  Marrying Ermil on a leave before he left for the war, he returned to a 1 ½ year old daughter that he had never met.  He became good friends with her when he presented her with a harmonica.

Charles enjoyed helping friends and neighbors, playing ball with his daughters and telling stories to his granddaughters about a boy named “Charley Boy and his dog Buster”.  He was a long-time member of Gideon’s International, was instrumental in starting Youth for Christ in Darke County and participating in jail ministries.  One of his proudest achievements was become a licensed lay minister.  He pastored at his home church in North Star and also at the Baptist Church in Versailles, Ohio.  He retired from preaching when he was in his late 90’s.

Charles is survived by his three daughters, Sally Peterson and her husband Richard of Molokai, Hawaii, Jane Good and her husband David of Yorkshire, Ohio and Sue Dunwoody and her husband Craig Dieringer of Schoolcraft, Michigan;  Grandchildren, Julia, Amy, Cami, Jennifer, Rebecca, Aaron, Micheal;  great grandchildren, Katie, Felicia, Toby, Paige, Ben, Lia, Nani, Madden and James.

Due to COVID 19 the family will not be holding a public funeral.  A graveside service will be scheduled later for family.  The family will be putting a You Tube memorial together for friends and relatives that would like to celebrate Charles’ life in the safety of their own homes.  Charles will be buried at Hosapple Cemetery.

Forest Floyd Myers (August 19, 2020(

Forest Floyd Myers, 89, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Sycamore Glen Retirement Community in Miamisburg, Ohio.

He was born on November 24, 1930, in Casstown, Ohio to the late Charles O. and Anna M. (Limerick) Myers.

In addition to his parents, Forest was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Earl (Geneva) Runge, Gene (Charlotte) Runge, Mildred (Paul) Anderson, and Paul (Violet) Myers.

Forest graduated from Patterson Co-Op in Dayton, Ohio. After high school, he went to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. Later in life, Forest worked and retired from the City of Dayton where he was a heavy equipment operator. Forest also drove a semi for over 10 years. He was affiliated with Mobile Missions of California for over 17 years. Forest was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville.

Forest is survived by his wife of 65 years, Effie (Mahaffy) Myers, whom he married on October 9, 1954; his children, Robyn Whitaker and her husband, Jeff, of Greenville, Fawn Couch and her husband, David, of Piqua, Ohio, and Scott Myers and his wife, Mary, of Fairborn, Ohio; his grandchildren, Garrett Johnson and his wife, Allison, of Lawrence Kansas, Jordan Johnson and his wife, Jamie, of Walla Walla Washington, Daren Johnson and his wife, Stephanie, of Wichita, Kansas, Kelly Calicoat of Dayton, Andrew Johnson and his wife, Jenita, of Kettering, Ohio, Jacob Wright of Atlanta, Georgia, Anna Bryant and her husband, Kyle, of Piqua, Joshua Myers of Fairborn, Sarah Mozingo and her husband, Donald, of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Caleb Myers and his wife, Echo, of Guernsey, Wyoming; and his 17 great grandchildren.

Marguerite “Marge” Butler (August 14, 2020)

Marguerite “Marge” Butler, 90, of Dayton, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 14, 2020, in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born on December 6, 1929, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Ivo and Olivia (Guggenbiller) Breig.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband Jerry; brother, Jack Breig; sister, Rosemary Hochreiter; step-daughter, Diane Hughes; nephew, Joe Breig; granddaughter in-law, Robin Grimsley; and great grandson, Jimmy Grimsley III.

Marge is survived by her children, Nancy and Bob Dean, Mary and Kevin McEldowney, Susan and Ken DeLong and Chuck and Anne Marie Hecht; her stepchildren, Pam and Don Christ, Mark and Kathy Butler, Jan and Michael Gigandet, Julie Maurer, and Karen and Mike Pilkenton; and her 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Marge was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Children were dear to her, and she welcomed into her spirit filled home 13 children, 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Marge and Jerry were active members in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dayton and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. Marge served on the Bereavement Committee at both parishes for decades. She enjoyed many good friends especially Barb Sullivan, her friend for 43 years. Marge loved to laugh, be with her family and friends, cook, read and entertain.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic in Centerville, Ohio, with Father Brian Phelps and Deacon Chris Rauch as celebrants. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton.

Friends may visit with Marge’s family on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blessing Box, in care of Tribute Funeral Homes, 1000 N. Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331. The Blessing Box was one of Marge’s favorite charities.
