Romanus “Russ” D. Monnin (February 3, 2021)

Romanus “Russ” D. Monnin, 82, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at his home with his family by his side, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from complications of congestive heart failure.

He was born on January 14, 1939, in Russia, Ohio, to the late Wilbert and Matilda (Sherman) Monnin. 

In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Koverman) Monnin, whom he married on August 4, 1962. 

He is also preceded in death by his infant sister, Mary Monnin; his brothers, Audrey Monnin and Merle (Kathleen) Monnin; his mother and father-in-laws, Cletus and Angeline Koverman; his brother-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” Koverman; and his sister-in-law, Deborah Koverman.

Russ served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He returned home and began a 30-plus year career as a bridge builder for Frantz Brothers in Sidney. Russ was an active member with the VFW Post 6557 in Pleasant Hill. Russ was a devoted Catholic and was strong in his faith. 

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren. In his free time, Russ preferred to be outdoors, hunting and fishing. He developed an interest in primitive camping, known as, mountain man camping. He enjoyed woodworking and leather work. Russ was known as “Whittler” by many of his mountain man friends. 

Russ is survived by his children, Robert (Maria) Monnin of Tipp City, Ohio, David (Tammy) Monnin of Greenville, Amanda Hill of Greenville, and Laura (Jeff) Gower of Versailles, Ohio; his 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his sister, Irene (Eugene) Berning, of St. Patrick, Ohio; his sisters-in-law, Mary Monnin of McCartyville, Ohio, and Kathleen (Nicholas) Wenning of South Carolina; his brothers-in-law, Daniel Koverman, and Steven (Rebecca) Koverman, all of New Bremen, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 233 W. Third Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331, with Father David Doseck as celebrant. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington. 

The Monnin family will be receiving guests on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, 1000 N. Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

Noreen C. Deming (February 3, 2021)

Noreen C. Deming, 96, of Wayne Lakes, Ohio, formerly of Sarasota, Florida, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

She was born on July 17, 1924, in Rochester, New York, to the late Nathan and Gladys (Fletcher) Conrow.

In addition to her parents, Noreen was preceded in death by her husband, Melville Deming in 2015, whom she married August 21, 1943; her brothers, Harry and Elwood Conrow.

Noreen was a devoted woman and caregiver. She took her love of helping people and applied it as an LPN for 25 years before retiring. She was a woman of strong of faith. She could grow anything with roots. She enjoyed sewing, the color red and cardinals.

Noreen is survived by her children, Wayne Deming and his wife, Kay, of Nokomis, Florida, Linda Page of Sarasota, Shirley Harter and her husband, Dave, of Wayne Lakes, Ohio, and Esther Becker and her husband, Hal, of North Port, Florida; her grandchildren, Michael Deming, and his wife, Wendy, Brian Deming and his wife, Dea, Ryan Page, Michele Bunger and her partner, Adam Royer, Rachel Duncan, Stacey Zawalski and her husband, Matt, Matt Harter and his wife, Wanda, Justin Becker, Heather Yago and her husband, Rob, and Andrew. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Emily, Nathan, Casey, Ethan, Willow, Markus, Collin, Alex, Alivia, Randall, Kaylee, Ashlyn, Jake, Josiah, Jansen, Gavin, Brooke, Andrew, Gracee, Heiress, and Reign.

Services will be held at a later date in Sarasota.

Deborah “Debbie” Reigle (February 1, 2021)

Deborah “Debbie” Reigle, 67, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. 

She was born on July 26, 1953, in Milford, Ohio, to the late Rolf and Norma (Howell) Dority. 

In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by her siblings, Gregg Dority and Denise Dority. 

Debbie was a 1971 graduate of Greenville High School. She spent over 20 years working for Corning in Greenville. In her free time, Debbie enjoyed reading books, listening to music, and playing trivia.

Debbie is survived by her daughter, Mollie Reigle of Greenville; and her nephew, Adam Dority and his wife, Jescinda, of Daytona Beach, Florida.

There will be no services for Debbie at this time.

Daniel Richard “Dan” Canan (February 3, 2021)

Daniel Richard “Dan” Canan, 62 passed away at 6:03 AM Wednesday February 3, 2021 after five months of declining health.

Dan was born to the late Dick L. and Mary Lou (Myers) Canan in Greenville, Ohio on March 1, 1958.  He was a 1977 graduate of Greenville Senior High.  Dan retired from Fram where he worked for 32 years and was known as “Danny”.

Dan enjoyed fishing, RC airplanes, camping (especially at Kentucky Horse Park), old westerns and movies; he also enjoyed 60’s, 70’s, and early 80’s rock music and tinkering in the garage.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents:  Sam and Mary Myers, and William and Mabel Canan; and his beloved cats: Smokey, Juelette, Brooks, Cleo, Marcelle, & Wheezer.

Dan is survived by his wife of 31 years:  Melissa J. (Howard) Canan whom he married July 1, 1989 and she referred to him as Sherlock; his brother in law:  Mark Howard; cousins:  Scott, Bobby, and Mary Kathryn Myers, Nancy Smith, Cathy Chadeayne, and many other cousins; and his beloved cat: Lex; and special friends:  Eileen Eckstein, Ron and Mary Bonfigleo, and Dave and Jan Mcclanahan.

Services will be held on Tuesday February 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Deacon Tom Graber officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Jefferson, Ohio.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday February 8, 2021 at the funeral home.  Vigil and Liturgy Prayers will be held on Monday at 4:45 PM.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Shriners Hospital.

Caryn Michelle Lilly (February 2, 2021)

Caryn Michelle Lilly, 43, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 2:15 P.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

She was born on September 28, 1977, in Dayton, Ohio, to Mr. Charles E. Lilly and Ms. Ina J. Lilly.

Caryn was a 1996 graduate of Greenville High School. Over the years, Caryn traveled all over the world with her family. She loved going to new places. Caryn also was an avid shopper and was known throughout town for her love of shopping.

In addition to her mother and father, Caryn is survived by her sister, Jennifer Anne Borch of Brookfield, Wisconsin; her grandparents, Barbara and Carl Bricker of Greenville; her aunt and uncle, Pam and Frank Griffin, of Fairborn, Ohio; her niece and nephew, Samara and Keller Borch of Brookfield; and her cousins, Eric Griffin of Fairborn, and Becky and Jason Owen of Fairborn.

At this time there are no services scheduled for Caryn.

Denver “Denny” Anthony (February 1, 2021)

Denver “Denny” Anthony, 73 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday February 1, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.  Denny was born in 1947 in Greenville, Ohio the son of Bob Anthony of Greenville and the late Dorothy (Kuhnle) Anthony.  He graduated from Greenville High School in 1965.  Denny married Diane McKibben of Arcanum on November 1, 1975.

He worked for Anthony Cycle Center for many years; then he worked for John Deere until he retired in 2008. He enjoyed his family and friends and he was loved and cherished and his family was blessed to have such a wonderful man in their lives.  His hobbies were tending to his yard and gardening, Nascar Racing, watching OSU games, search puzzles.  In his early years he raced professional motorcycles with AMA; he also officiated AMA motorcross races.

He is preceded in death by his mother: Dorothy; brothers:  Charlie and Steven (Pee Wee) Anthony; sister in law:  Helen Anthony; mother & father in law:  Lloyd & Alice McKibben; sister & brother in law:  Judy & Marvin Brodrick; brother in law:  Homer Brewer.

He is survived by his wife: Diane Anthony of Greenville; his father Bob Anthony; his daughters & sons in law:  Tammy & Bobby Salmon of Fayetteville, N.C., Barbara & Brent Fisher of Englewood, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother & sister in law:  Mike & Joanne Anthony; sister:  Susie Anthony; sisters in law:  Mary Brewer, & Barbara Anthony; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held on Friday February 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating.  Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.  The family request that anyone who attends to please wear a mask.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Association of Darke County, 1111 Sweitzer Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

Donald Eugene "Don" Kepler (January 31, 2021)

Donald Eugene "Don" Kepler, 92, of Pitsburg, Ohio, passed away of natural causes, on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 3:45 PM at his home.

Don was born in Pitsburg December 31, 1928, to the late Merl and Kathryn (Condon) Kepler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant great-granddaughters, Stella Rose and Kendyll Dale Williams.

Don is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 70 years, Ruth (Blumenstock) Kepler, whom he married, September 9, 1950; his son, David (Dixie) Kepler of Pitsburg; his daughters, Beth Schrodi of Pitsburg, and Barbara (Duane) Denlinger of Farmersville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Ryan Kepler, Christina Ray and Tyler Schrodi, Leighanne Williams, Heather Schreyer and Vanessa Silvers. Don is also survived by his great grandchildren, James and Marcus Ray, Harper and Avery Schrodi, Nolan and Landon Williams, Wyatt and Luke Schreyer, and Brock Silvers; his brother, James (Jeanne) Kepler of Pitsburg; a niece, Melinda Meyers; a nephew, Mike Kepler; and many cousins and friends.

Don was a 1946 graduate of Monroe High School in Pitsburg. He was a former member of the Franklin-Monroe School Board and he served as clerk-treasure as well as a firefighter for the Village of Pitsburg. Many years ago Don and others were instrumental in forming the Pitsburg Little League. Don was a member of the AASR Masonic Valley of Dayton 32nd degree and a 60+ year member of Arcanum Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of Antioch Shrine Club of Dayton and the Darke County Shrine Club. He was a 41-year member of the Pitsburg Lions Club and was Governor of District 13-E, and Council Chairman for the State of Ohio Lions Clubs. Don was also a member of the Potsdam Church of the Brethren.

Due to the COVID pandemic, Don's family will be having a private memorial service, including a Lions memorial service, on Thursday, February 4, 2021, which will be available to be viewed remotely on our Facebook page, facebook.com/tributefuneralhomes, starting at 10:00 AM.

Dennis Leon Sides (January 28, 2021)

Dennis Leon Sides, 75, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born on November 25, 1945, in Dayton, to the late Lester and Martha (Rurode) Sides.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Mark Sides; his daughter, Paula Lewis; his grandson, Evan Sides; and his siblings, Charles, Donald, and Keith Sides, and Verna Cook.

Dennis was a hard working and dedicated man. He devoted 26 years to Sheller-Globe as an industrial painter. Following that, he worked for the Body Company for eight years before becoming a cabinet maker. He enjoyed many things; he was an Ohio State Buckeye fan, he loved fishing, horseback riding, wood working and riding his motorcycle. However, all these hobbies were far more enjoyable when shared with his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson. He was a caring and loving person who was always willing to help others.

Dennis is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Janice (Mock) Sides, whom he married on February 17, 1979; his children, Todd Sides of Columbus, Ohio, Darrel Sides of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tony Lewis and his wife, Lynn, of Greenville; his grandchildren, Nathan and his wife, Mai, Jeffrey and his wife, Elizabeth, Melissa and her husband Michael, Mackenzie and her husband, Justin, Brandi, Spencer and his wife, Emilie, Conner, and Lance; and his great grandson Hudson.

A Celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville campus with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington, Ohio.

His family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at noon at the funeral home.

Joe R. Armstrong (January 31, 2021)

Joe R. Armstrong, age 93 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 6:04 AM Sunday January 31, 2021 at the Village Green Healthcare Campus of Greenville.  Joe was born August 25, 1927 in Darke County, Ohio and the son of the late Ralph and Blanche (Hittle) Armstrong.

Joe was a Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Army stationed in the Philippines.  He farmed and raised livestock and always had a collie by his side, which he always named “Lassie”.  He loved working in his woodworking shop making toy farm equipment and looked forward to having Sunday Supper every week with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.  Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville, enjoyed traveling and belonging to camping clubs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Bevva L. (Ross) Armstrong August 23, 2013.  They were married October 5, 1948.  Also a daughter-in-law Dawn Armstrong and sister Anne Lee Shuttleworth.

Joe is survived by his children  Bill (Jane Oliver) Armstrong of Greenville and Linda (Robert) Christman of Greenville; grandchildren, Scott (Angie) Armstrong, Ken (Aimee) Armstrong, Mark (Amanda) Armstrong, and Mike (Whitney) Christman; great grandchildren, Allie, Taylor, Jake, Josh, Bella, Lexi and Eli Armstrong, Wyatt Christman, Kate, Ben and Sam Oliver and Kennedi Strawser; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating.  Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery.

Barbara (Houdeshell) Skinner (Jan. 24th, 2021)

Our loving Mother Barbara (Houdeshell) Skinner went to be with the lord on Jan. 24th, 2021. She was 73 years young.

She was born on July 14, 1947, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Donovan Houdeshell and Phyllis (Gibson) Cheadle.

In addition to her parents, Barb was proceeded in death by her husband of nearly 56 years, Richard; her two Brothers, Chester “Chet” Cheadle and Greg Cheadle. All of whom she has dearly missed and will be waiting to greet her in Heaven. 

She is survived by a son, Richard “Rick” and his wife, Kris, and their two children, Katelyn and Kyle; her daughter, Julie Skinner and her son, Brayden. She is also survived by her brothers, Donovan “Don” Houdeshell of Asotin, Washington state, Ronald Houdeshell of Dayton, Ohio; and a sister, Bonnie Rodgers, and husband, Dave, of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews. 

Barb truly loved life and spending time with her family and friends. She loved making and creating things throughout the year that she could share with others. Things such as wonderful meals, ceramics, homemade greeting cards to scrapbooks, anything that she thought would bring joy, beauty, or happiness to someone’s life. But the thing Barb loved the most and she will probably most be remembered for was her love of flowers, herbs, and gardening! She loved sharing her knowledge of herbs, plants with anyone that would listen or take them. She was always giving away a start of a plant or something she grew in her greenhouse. She took her love of gardening to another level as she was a long-time member of the Ladybug Garden Club where she served in many leadership roles over the years.

There are many words we could use to describe Barb’s life, but Faithful Servant would be the most appropriate. Not only was she a wonderful Mom, selflessly serving her family, but she was a faithful servant of Jesus and her church family at Gospel Baptist Church. Barb was always looking for ways to serve others, her friends, and her community.

To say serving others was her lifelong calling is an understatement. This started early in life as she began working as a young teenager waitressing in her Aunt’s corner café in Arcanum and continued as a waitress for many years at Schumeth’s restaurant in Greenville, all while raising a family. Her life of service continued for 23 years as she sacrificed, weekends, nights, and holidays to help others as a Deputy 911 Dispatcher at the Darke County Sheriff’s Office. After she retired in 2007 she found herself spending her free time serving as an auctioneer’s assistant and clerk for Mike Baker and Jim Wroda, where she made many more lifelong friends. 

When Barb was not helping others, spending time in flowerbeds, or at an auction, you could find her cheering for one of her grandchildren at a sporting event, or some special event they were involved in. She loved to travel! It did not matter if it was just a Sunday drive to visit friends or one of many family fishing and hunting trips to Canada, Montana and New Mexico, she always enjoyed an adventure! One of her most favorite trips was the two months she and Richard spent driving to Alaska in their truck camper.

Although Barb dedicated her life to helping others, her greatest passion and accomplishment was raising her family. Though only being five feet tall, she was a gentle giant, but she could also be a force to be reckoned with. Barb was, in life as she was in her death, a Fighter and a Survivor! She was a breast cancer survivor of over eight years and a fighter up until she took her last breath. So much so, she earned the nickname “Rocky” from her nurses.

“Mom, you’ve fought the good fight and now your work is done. Fly high with the angels as there is no doubt you’ve earned your wings! Rest easy you beautiful soul.”

A memorial celebration of Barb’s life will be held at Greenville Union Cemetery at a later date.

William Franklin “Bill” Davenport (January 26, 2021)

William Franklin “Bill” Davenport went to be the Lord on January 26, 2021, following a courageous battle. Bill was born on May 6, 1956, to William and Barbara (Blade) Davenport in Dayton, Ohio.

Bill attended The Ohio State University, majoring in dairy science. There he met the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Beth (Deam) Davenport, whom he married on March 4, 1978. They built an active and loving family with their four children: Rachel (Mike) Fearon of Greenville, Nathan (Jennifer) Davenport of Greenville, Nicia (Josh) Hanes of Union City, and Abbey (Chase) Moore of Arcanum. He was beloved by his grandchildren—Madelyn, Seth, and Edee Fearon; Adrina, Brielle, Carleigh, and Gracie Davenport; Harley, Caden, Cole, and Hadley Hanes; and Lilly, Navie, and Toby Moore.

Bill was a dairyman at heart and managed Dalwood Dairy in Wakeman, Ohio, for a number of years. He retired from Harvestland Co-op in 2019 and found enjoyment working at the Graves- Fearon Insurance Agency. Bill adored his wife Beth and his family, with whom he loved spending time at ball games, livestock shows, and fishing trips. He was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, and he traveled to numerous Big Ten championship games with Beth, their family and friends over the years.

Bill was also devoted to his faith, instilling important values in his family such as hard work, dedication, patience, love, and courage. At the start of his valiant battle with cancer, Bill was introduced to Joshua 1:9: “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” He lived this verse to the fullest, and he spent the last years of his life fighting to be with the family and friends he loved.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Bill is survived by his mother, Barbara; his siblings Dale (Karen) Davenport, Darryl (Bev) Davenport, Robin Burns, Darren (Kara) Davenport, and Krista (Tom) Parker, his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Tom Deam, Michele (Steve) Specht, Steve (Deidre) Deam, and Neil (Jennifer) Deam; and will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Davenport; his grandson Kobe Michael Fearon; his father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Carol Ruth Deam; and his sister-in-law Kathy Deam.

A celebration of Bill’s life will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 1, 2021 at EUM Church, Worship Center, 1451 Sater Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331, with Pastor Jeff Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomer Cemetery.

(Mills) Petitjean whom he married May 2, 1977; sons & daughters-in-law, Jacob Petitjean & Megan Coffman of Wapakoneta, John & Sarah Petitjean of Versailles, Shawn & Heather Petitjean of Versailles and Shannon & Shannon Petitjean of Versailles; grandchildren, Kaleb, JJ, Ashley, Abby, Dale, Jarrod, Kyle, Christopher, Faithlynn and Charlotte Petitjean; brother & sister-in-law, Charlie & Pam Petitjean of Versailles; brothers-in-law, Jim Mills of Hollansburg, Ron Mills of Hollansburg and Thomas Cline of Union City, Indiana; sister-in-law, Patricia Petitjean of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilbur graduated from Versailles High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 following High School. Wilbur farmed and retired from Edwin F. Nickol Monuments in Versailles with over 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; Knights of Columbus Council #1756 of Versailles; Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Versailles American Legion. Wilbur was a loving, caring, hardworking man willing to help anyone in need. He loved vacationing at St. Pete Beach, Florida and in the Caribbean with his wife. Wilbur was an avid Tigerball sports fan and longtime Versailles Athletic Booster supporter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 1, 2021, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Denise Lynne Weyrick (January 20, 2021)

Denise Lynne Weyrick, 61, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at her home.

She was born on July 29, 1959, in Greenville, to Carol Jane (Booher) Apple of Versailles, Ohio, and the late Harold R. Apple.

In addition to her father, Denise was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Apple, and her father-in-law, Eugene Weyrick.

Denise cherished her family, and they were the center of her life. She was truly the cornerstone of her family and was a listening ear for people to come to. Denise loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing His testimony to others, especially with her family and Bible Study group. Denise loved to garden, and she enjoyed the beauties of nature and flowers. She was an avid reader. It was not uncommon for her to start a book in the morning and have it finished before bed. Her joyful personality and contagious and unique laughter will be forever missed.

In addition to her mother, Denise is survived by her husband of 40 years, Michael Weyrick, whom she married on May 16, 1980; her children, Janell Weyrick of Greenville, Laura Weyrick of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Bryant Weyrick of Denver, Colorado; her siblings, Richard “Rick” Apple and his wife, Michele of Versailles, Jill Kuntzman and her husband, Tom, of Columbus, and Beth Subler and her husband, Scott, of Versailles; her sisters-in-law, Candace Apple of Versailles, and Sharon Harris of Huber Heights, Ohio; and her mother-in-law, Emma Weyrick, of Greenville.

A celebration of Denise’s life will take place later this spring, which was her favorite time of the year.

Denise will be buried at Greenville Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

George W. “Junior” Neff (January 24, 2021)

George W. “Junior” Neff, 84, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

Junior was born on February 28, 1936, in West Manchester, Ohio, to the late William and Dora (Deaton) Neff.

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold (Marie) Neff, Carl (Normalee) Neff, and Donald Neff.

Junior owned and operated Neff Brothers Construction for near 35 years, where he built and remodeled several homes and buildings. Junior owned a 172 Cessna airplane and he loved to take his family and friends around on trips and especially to places to eat, known as “Restaurant Airports”. Junior liked to go fishing and would often take fishing trips to Canada and Florida with his buddies.

He was an avid horseshoe pitcher in the Darke County Horseshoe Club and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He competed in many tournaments around the country. Junior was one of the four members that founded and created the Greenville Area Dog Club. He was also a member of the Greenville Gold Wing Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. After retirement, Junior was an avid mower. He loved to keep his lawn clean and things neat. He also enjoyed square dancing with the Swinging 8’s in Ansonia, Ohio. Junior was a big collector of dice.

Junior is survived by his wife 61 years, Thelma (Fisher) Neff; whom he married on September 27, 1959; his son, Brian (Patty) Neff of Celina, Ohio; his granddaughters, Mandy (Matt) Rismiller and Megan (Kyle) Shuff, all of Greenville; his great grandchildren, Mason and Maven Rismiller, and Lillian and Henry Shuff; his sister-in-law, Gladys Neff of Greenville; his nieces and nephews, Connie Clark, Steve (Ruth Ann) Neff, Carla (Gary) Hummel, Paul (Vickie) Neff, Sarah (Perry) Graves, Dean (Jody) Neff, Dian (Eric) Bulcher, Beth (Dennis) Wells, and Kelly (Janel) Byrum; and numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Junior’s life will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in. Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Guests may visit with Junior’s family on Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

David S. Gantt (January 26, 2021)

David S. Gantt age 81, of Greenville passed away at 2:44 PM on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at his residence.

David was born August 17, 1939, in Darke County to the late Murray & Ethel (Hess) Gantt. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Gantt; sister, Joan Clack; and brother, Richard Gantt.

David is survived by his sons & daughter-in-law, Kirk Gantt of Bradford, David & Cindy Gantt of Bradford, Todd Gantt of Greenville and Mark Gantt of Bradford; daughters & sons-in-law, Wendy & Gary Canan of Bradford and Sarah & Bob Daugherty of Bradford; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, Jack Gantt of California, Gene & Shirley Gantt of Piqua, Bob & jenny Gantt of Vandalia, Frank Gantt of Pitsburg, Bill & Jane Gantt of Greenville and Johnny & Scott Gantt of Dayton; sisters & brothers-in-law, Miriam & Doug Minnich of Bradford, Arlene & Earl Manning of Bradford and Peggy Brumbaugh of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. in Union City, Indiana, and the Amvets.

Vanessa J. Paris age 67, of Ansonia passed away at 9:39 AM on Monday, January 25, 2021, at her residence.

Vanessa was born July 20, 1953, in Shelbyville, Indiana, to the late Robert “Bob” & Frances “Lucille” (Russell) Hoffman. In addition to her parents, Vanessa was also preceded in death by her husband, S. Dave Paris on March 3, 2002, whom she married January 31, 1970; brother, Keith Grover; sister-in-law, Juanita Casey; and brothers-in-law, Ron Paris and Art Francis.

Vanessa is survived by her children, Mike Paris of Ansonia, James Robert Paris of Ansonia, April Staver of Ansonia and John “J.T.” & Jaclyn Paris of Ansonia; grandchildren, Brandi Paris, Miranda Roberts, Paige Roberts, Seth & Leann Weagant, Chelsy & Kyle Paris, Dillon Paris, Christion & Jessica Paris, Nicholas Paris, Sydney Staver, Brianna Paris, Johnathon Paris, Brianna Smith, Makayla Pitman, Paige Pitman and Madison Pitman; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers & sister-in-law, Bruce Miller of Warsaw, Indiana, Terry & Patricia Miller of Warsaw, Indiana, Jon Cloud of Florida and Mark Grover of Richmond, Indiana; brother-in-law, Rick Elson of Greenville; sisters-in-law, Linda Grover of Richmond, Indiana, Debbie Francis of Versailles, Judy & Darrell Coby of Greenville and Marsha Paris of Ansonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vanessa formerly worked at Stanley in Covington for 17 years and formerly owned the Annie Oakley Restaurant.

Matthew L. Hahn (January 14, 2021)

Matthew L. Hahn, age 48 of Cincinnati, Ohio and Naples, Florida passed away Thursday January 14, 2021 at the Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida.  Matthew was born September 14, 1972 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of Richard L. and Gloria (Stump) Hahn of Bradford, Ohio.

Matthew was a 1991 graduate of Greenville Senior High School Greenville, Ohio and received his BA Degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton in 1995.  During his sophomore year at UD, he proudly served as “Rudy Flyer” the college mascot at all the basketball and football games.  In 2008, he founded Hahn Promotions, which he operated from both Cincinnati and Naples.  He loved spending time at the beach in Florida watching the sunset, and traveling with his wife Paula.  Matthew had a smile that would light up the room.

Survivors in addition to his parents are his wife of 15 years Paula J. (McKinney) Hahn; brother Mark Hahn of Fairview Park, Ohio; step-children Matthew (Dawn) Nicely of Cincinnati and their children Everlee, Wade and Makaylah; Hailey Nicely (Travis Kemp) of Cincinnati and children Riley and Delilah; half-sister Cindy Kegley of Bethel, Ohio; nieces Madison Hahn, Melissa Hall, and Julie Thompson as well as nephew Turner Hahn.

Janet Mary Gigandet (January 25, 2021)

Janet Mary Gigandet, age 68 of Versailles, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. Born in Coldwater, Ohio on August 5, 1952 she was one of two children to the late William Charles “Chub” & Clara (Sutter) Paulus. Jan was a Versailles High School Graduate, class of 1970. She was a member of the Versailles American Legion, and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Jeffery Paulus.

Survived by her husband of 49 years, Ralph Gigandet, Jr. whom she married March 27, 1971: children Chris (Sandy) Gigandet; Keri (Charen) Kingrey; Susan (Aaron) Bergman: grandchildren Mandi (Curtis) Reigle; Katelyn Kingrey; Lindsey (Mitch) Stucke; Kyle and Tyler Gigandet; Ayden, Lane and Stella Bergman: great-grandchildren Isabella and Matthew Reigle; Clara, Caroline and Levi Stucke.

Jan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After working at Whiteford Foods and then the Village of Versailles for nearly 20 years, she became a fulltime babysitter for all of her grandchildren and, in recent years, also helped care for her great-grandchildren. You could always find her supporting them at a school sporting event or activity. Her sweet smile, witty sarcasm and kind spirit made her a beloved friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Naomi L. Jones (January 17, 2021)

Naomi L. Jones, age 97 of Greenville, Ohio went to meet the Lord on Sunday January 17, 2021 at the home of her granddaughter Mary Alyson Brunson Jones in Orlando, Florida.  Naomi was born March 8, 1923 in Lafayette, Alabama and the daughter of the late Columbus and Naomi (Glaze) Smith.

She worked throughout her life as a midwife and farmer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband R.J. Jones and son-in-law Alfred Eugene Brunson.

Naomi is survived by her daughter, Annie Mae Jones-Brunson; five grandchildren, Attorney Dwayne Keith (Beth) Jones, Naomi Kimberly (Gregory) Fair, Mary Alyson Brunson Jones, Norman Anthony (Jody Pruett) Brunson and Joseph Andrew (Gloria) Brunson; several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, including her great granddaughter, Elizabeth Brunson; great great grandsons, Marcus Johnson and Corey Johnson who loved her more than anything. Naomi also had many good friends and neighbors.  She not only cared for many but also was loved by many more.  She will be missed and thought of but never forgotten.

Mildred V. (Melling) McGriff Dilyerd (January 23, 2021)

Mildred V. (Melling) McGriff Dilyerd, 92, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born on October 24, 1928, in Savona, Ohio, to the late Roy and Lorene (Brandon) Melling.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband, Riley McGriff; her second husband, Earl Dilyerd; her brothers, Roy Melling, Jr., and Donald Melling; and her sisters, Betty Lou Melling, Lucille Greer, and Helen Snyder.

Mildred loved her family. They were the world to her, and she loved to care for them. From Sunday dinners to family reunions, Mildred loved cooking for her family and would often prepare enough food for the entire neighborhood. She, and her husband, Riley, owned McGriff’s Radio and TV Sales and Service in Castine, Ohio, for many years. She worked alongside Riley for nearly 20 years as a TV technician.

Mildred enjoyed gardening and would often can her produce. She also liked to go mushroom hunting with her husband and siblings. In Mildred’s free time, she enjoyed sewing. In fact, while she was at the BRC, she had two sewing machines in her room with a supply cabinet filled with materials. Also, at the BRC Mildred was an avid bingo player. She rarely missed a game of bingo with her friends.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Linda (Hugh) Alderson of Englewood, Ohio, and Bonnie (Willie) Schuch of Willis, Texas; her grandchildren, Amy Hill of Englewood, and Ryan (Heather) Hill of Greenville; her great grandchildren, Wesley, Breanna, Rylee, Ashley, Mariah, Zalynn, and Easton; her great-great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Alan, Ava, and Zaydan; her siblings, Bobby Melling of Greenville, Dick Melling of Greenville, Galen Melling of Greenville, Larry (Jill) Melling of Bradford, and Louise Hileman of Greenville; her sister-in-law, Joyce Melling; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mildred’s life will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Tribute Funeral Homes, with Pastor Coleen Beasecker officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery.

Guests may visit with her family on Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at 2:00 P.M.
