Roger B. Saylor, age 43 of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Thursday January 27, 2011 at his residence. He was born May 29, 1967 in Dayton, Ohio the son of Patricia (Manning) Burton of Bradford, Ohio & Clennie Saylor of Dayton, Ohio. He is survived by his parents; Brothers: John “Moses” Burton, & Clennie “Pete” Manning. Services will be held on Wednesday February 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, Ohio. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Nancy W. “Nonnie” Wooten, age 56 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Thursday January 27, 2011 at 9:40 PM at Vitas Hospice, Dayton, Ohio. She was born July 30, 1954 the daughter of Betty J. (Case) Rogers of Greenville and the late Stanley Edward Rogers Jr. She was a caregiver. She is preceded in death by her father; Husband: William Arlon Boyd Sr.; Granddaughter: Abigail Renee Minnich. She is survived by her children & spouses: Candy & Matt Gantt of Greenville, Brandy & Kent Minnich of Greenville, William & Stephanie Boyd of Greenville, Buddy & Anne Boyd of Texas; Grandchildren: Billy Boyd, Ashley Boyd, Curtis Minnich, Cody Boyd, David Minnich, Taz Gantt, Devon Gantt; Step Grandchildren: Colin, Tiffany, & Debbie; Great Granddaughter: Emma Boyd; Step Great Grandchildren: Mariah, Hailey, Kirah; Brother & sister in law: Sonny & Leslie Rogers of Arizona; Sisters: Jackie Flancher of Texas, Lonna Kolasenski of Arizona, Linda Bryan of Arcanum. Phyllis I. (Dershem) Etzler, 81, of New Madison, passed away on January 28, 2011 at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Phyllis was born in Preble County on February 12, 1929 to the late Aaron & Bertha (Bridgett) Dershem. Phyllis is a graduate of New Madison High School. She later worked and retired from FRAM after 25 years of service. Phyllis enjoyed knitting, fishing, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She was also a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. Most of all, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by a son, Jack Etzler; sisters, Margaret Boyer, Carolyn Stewart, Maxine Curtis and an infant sister. Phyllis leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Gerald Etzler; two sons, Jerald Etzler and Joe Etzler; a daughter, Jill Etzler; two grandchildren, Amanda Etzler-Farber and IO Etzler; two brothers, Lew Dershem and Glenn “Bill” Dershem; two sisters, Janet Waltz and Ruth Puterbaugh. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 4 – 6 PM at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, 373 Love Road, New Paris. A Celebration of Life service will be on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Tony Price officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Helen M. Niswonger, 84, of Greenville, passed away late Thursday morning, January 27, 2011 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. She was born March 3, 1926 in West Manchester, daughter of the late John Patrick and Carrie (Arthur) Haller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Derrick Mowery. A homemaker, Helen was an avid refunder and had sold Avon. She enjoyed Elvis, all kinds of music, roller skating and traveling around the country with her husband and love of her life on a Harley motorcycle. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Niswonger; her daughters, Shirley (Tom) Mowery, and Bonnie (Lloyd) Stinson both of Greenville; grandchildren, Tonia Mowery, Brian Henson and Eric Henson; great grandchildren, Eli Hathaway, Lane Mowery and Cortlin Gentry; and two sisters, Dixie Shaffer of Eldorado, and Mary Ellen Strahan of Clayton. Private services will be held at a later date at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Cancer Association of Darke County.

Penelope K. Teegarden, 55, of Rossburg, passed away early Thursday morning, January 27, 2011 from injuries do to an auto accident on ST. Rt. 49 in Montgomery County.
She was born April 12,1955 in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of the late Harry Stine and mother Josephine (Patterson) Stine of Piqua.
Penelope was RN nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and a member of the Teegarden Congregational Christian Church.

Mrs. Longenecker was born in New Madison on March 14, 1935, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lissie (Charles) Bowers. She was a member of EUM Church Greenville. Doris worked as the Cafeteria Manager at the Brethren Home retiring in 1997. She is preceded in death by her husband Jackie L. Longenecker, Brothers Bob, Harold, and Pete Bowers, Sisters Edith Bowers and Judy Klopfer. Phyllis M. Krickenbarger, 80, of Eaton, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at Reid Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Krickenbarger was born Nov. 2, 1930 in Darke County to the late Chalmer and Hazel (Riegle) Hawkey. Phyllis was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was a member of St. Paul Crosswords United Methodist Church, Eaton. Phyllis is survived by her husband Byron Krickenbarger whom she married March 24, 1951. Daughters; Pamela (Steven) Schweikert, of Owosso Mi; Cheryl Scholes of Eaton; Brenda(Austin) "Buzz" Kennell of Waynesboro Va. Melissa (Jeff) Lipps of Eaton; Sons; Tim (Jamie) Krickenbarger of Arcanum; Douglas (Lisa) Krickenbarger of West Alexandria, Jeff (Donna) Krickenbarger of West Alexandria. 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; brothers Wayne (Connie) Hawkey of LaGrange GA; Keith (Wilma) Hawkey of Farmersville and a sister Shirley Holsapple of Eaton. Phyllis was preceded in death by brothers Garth and Max Hawkey and sisters Patty Cox and Barbara Davies. Oma C. Baker, 92, of Arcanum, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Englewood Manor, Englewood. Mrs. Baker was born in Fremont, Virginia on September 16, 1918, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Dunahoo) Philyaw. She was a member of Gordon United Methodist Church, Gordon and was owner/operator of the former Midway Market. She is preceded in death by her first husband Thomas Archer who died September 23, 1969 and her second husband Elmer Baker who died September 12, 1986, infant Daughter Joetta Archer, five Brothers Roy, Lonnie, Cecil, Felix, and Cuba Philyaw, and a sister Stella Green. Oma is survived by four Daughters Deloris Anne Meadows of Canal Winchester, Thelma Campbell and husband Bill of Knoxville, TN, Cathy Oswalt and husband Don of Arcanum, and Ruby Hutchens of Arcanum; Son Roger L. Archer and wife Sharon of Arcanum; 16 Grandchildren; numerous Great and Great Great Grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Archer Cemetery, Lashmeet, West Virginia with Rev Randolph Dishner officiating. Mildred M. Shade, 95, of Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 25, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville.
She was born September 22, 1915 in Darke County, the daughter of the late Samuel and Eva Mae (Ford) Young. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Shade on September 16, 1982, brothers, Carl, Porter, and Dick Young, and sisters, Wanneta Bell and Virgil VanScoyk.
Mildred was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the Insurance Business. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church in Ansonia and she served as the 1st woman member on the School Board in Ansonia.
She is survived by her children, George (Louise) Shade, Kent Shade, Michael (Linda) Shade, Carol (Roy) Burnett, Donna (Robert) Herron; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren;
Graveside services will be held at 12 P.M. on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Fred Herron officiating.

Joyce E. (Hill-Schlechty) Thornhill, 78, of Greenville and formerly of Ansonia, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 25, 2011, at Sterling House in Greenville.
She was born November 22, 1932 in Lynn, IN, daughter of the late Forest O. and Martha Ellen (Abner) Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Schlechty on June 11, 1966; her second husband, Nelson W. Thornhill on September 23, 1995; a sister, Janet Sickels; a brother, Jerald Hill; and step sons, Richard J. and David O. Thornhill.
Joyce was retired from the Greenville National Bank, Ansonia Branch where she had worked for 45 years. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist church and the Darke County Emmaus. She also was a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 114 and a member of Twig 21.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Patricia) Schlechty, and Brenda J. Schlechty; step son, Donn (Charlene) Thornhill; a daughter-in-law, Karen Thornhill; a granddaughter, Amanda (Ed) Ryan; step grandchildren, Kim Cromwell, Jody (John) Lockhart, and Brian Thornhill; several step great and great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Frances Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Bruce D. Swank (January 24, 2011)
Bruce D. Swank, 64, of Greenville, passed away Monday afternoon, January 24, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Hospice in Dayton.He was born August 20, 1946 in Greenville, son of the late Ralph E. and Helen M. (Poling) Swank. In addtion to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Brandt.
Bruce was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam. He was retired from Judo Steel where he had worked as an Estimator. He was a member of the American Legion Post 140 in Greenville.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine (Connelley) Swank, whom he married November 23, 1968; a daughter, Anita M. (Michael) Brandt of Slidell, LA; son, Bradley (Jennifer) Swank of Tipp City; grandsons, Michael Brandt, Jr., Justin Brandt, and Braden Swank; a brother, Robert Swank of Franklin, IN.; a sister, Joyce Pierron of MN.; sister-in-law Linda (John) Mentefering of MI; and special friends Linda and Larry Snider, and Mike and Lynn Howard.
Services with full military honor by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 12 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Doug Baker officiating.

June E. Marker (January 23, 2011)
June Evelyn (Ward) Marker, age 93, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on January 23, 2011 at 2:55 PM at Wayne Healthcare, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on June 6, 1917 to the late Florence (Deeter) and Harry Ward who resided in Versailles, Ohio.
Mrs. Marker was a direct descendant of the famous and well known David and George Ward. David was a well known Indian fighter and one of the first settlers of Swamp Creek, Wayne Township, Darke County, and George, a soldier that fought in the revolutionary was under the General George Washington. We always think of the township and county as being Ward Country.
She was a graduate of Versailles High School, class of 1935. June was very active in sports, earning five varsity letters. Mrs. Marker was retired from Palace Department Store. She was a member of East Zion Church for many years. June was a member and past regent of the Fort Greenville Chapter of the DAR for over 60 years. Also a life member and past president of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a former member of the BPW club. She was also a member of the Darke County Genealogical Society and a member of the First Families of Darke County. Mrs. Marker was a life member of the DAR officers club and Pioneer Families of Darke County. She was also a member of the Heritage Club. She married the late L. Dan Marker in 1939, a marriage of nearly 60 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Helen Ward.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret (Ward) Ashman of Greenville; loved ones, Roberta Warner and Lori Stone of Greenville, Allie and Ben Davidson of Stafford, Virginia; sister in law, Joanna Schmermund of Texas; as well as numerous loving caregivers. June was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Edith Madonna Sink age 92 of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 12:47 P.M. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Wayne Health Care in Greenville. Madonna was born August 12, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late S.H. and Nellie (Shiverdecker) Pepple.
Madonna was an inspector at Fram for 30 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Rossburg United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Madonna was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sink, whom she married March 7, 1936; sons, Larry and Robert Sink; grandson, Joseph Sink; brothers, Fremont, Adrian, Emery and Robert Pepple; and sisters, Curetta Subler, Mary Sink and Cecil Gilbert.
Madonna is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gutermuth of Rossburg; daughter-in-law, Cindy Sink of Rossburg; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Patty Sanders of Greenville; sister-in-law, Delores Pepple of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Brent Karns (January 19, 2011)
Brent Karns, 53, of Boca Raton, Florida, died Wednesday January 19, 2011 at his residence in the loving care of his wife and family after a courageous battle with cancer. Brent was born in Darke County on September 16, 1957 to the late Rex Karns and Sue Karns Stammen, who survives. He was a 1976 graduate of Arcanum High School. He loved all sports, the University of Houston, and the Cleveland Browns. He served in the U. S. Air Force and retired from the city of Boca Water Plant. Gene Cox, 80, of Greenville, died Sunday evening, January 16, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Cox was born in Butler Township, Darke County, on April 13, 1930, the son of the late Earl M. and Weltha C. (Noggle) Cox. He attended EUM Church, Greenville and was a 32nd degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge #295, Arcanum and Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine. Gene was the owner of Royal Crest Distributors, Inc, Gene's, Inc. and a partner in Royal Crest Dairy, and involved in many other business adventures. Mr. Cox was a member of the Darke County Farm Bureau and The Elks, Greenville, and a former member of the Butler Township School Board. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Riegle) Cox, whom he married December 29, 1951; sons Phillip G. Cox and wife Lois of Tipp City and Doug Cox of Troy; grandchildren Brandon Cox and Kevin Cox. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum, with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating and the Greenville Area Veterans providing military services. Helen Sue Keihl, age 67, of Versailles passed away January 20, 2011, in her home following an extended illness. She was born April 8, 1943, in Wolfe County, Kentucky, the youngest child of Paris and Emma Mae (Buchanan) Bradley. She graduated from Hazel Green Academy in 1960.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years David A. Keihl whom she married November 13, 1965, children Tabitha (Jeff) Clymer of Troy and David Todd (Shelly) Keihl of Bradford, her grandchildren Zane and Nelson Clymer who were her pride and joys, sisters Mildred Jones of Centerville and Fern Clark of Dayton. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Douglas Bradley, and sisters Bonnie Nickell, Margaret Brown, Betty Nickell, Jean Moehring, Naomi Nickell, Daphine Campbell, and infant sister Patricia Bradley.
Sue touched the lives of many. She was a loving wife, mother, mamaw, Grandma Sue, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a beloved Weight Watchers leader for the Versailles, Eaton, and Greenville communities for many years. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her home which was evident in the many number of garden and Christmas home tours she had.
Sue’s life will be honored on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Versailles Christian Church with Pastor Dennis Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, 653 Hickey Ave., Versailles. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to State of the Heart Hospice, 1350 North Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331-2461. James William Smith age 74 of Ft. Loramie, Ohio, passed away at 6:43 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his residence. James was born August 24, 1936 in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Ted & Bertha (Glick) Smith.
James retired from the State of Ohio Division of Parks Lake Loramie. He served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Baker) Smith; and sister, Ruthie Hemlinger.
James is survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Chris & Ed Lennon of Versailles and Mic & Jack Tilton of Troy; son, Bob Smith & Lisa Heaton of Covington; grandchildren, Stephanie Money, Bobby Smith, Mickey Smith, Corissa Lennon, James Lennon, Damon Francis, Shanna Hoelscher and Joshua Francis; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Mary McKibben of Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Annette L. Longenecker, age 57, of Laura, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Brookhaven Retirement Community, Brookville, Ohio. She was born on February 5, 1953 in Greenville, Ohio, to Elmer Longenecker of Laura, Ohio, and the late Ellen (Rasor) Longenecker. Annette was a self employed farmer.
In addition to her father she is survived by her daughter and son in law, Carmen (Trent) Yantes of Pacific, Missouri; son, Clay Morris of Greenville; grandchildren, Logan Yantes, Heather Morris, and Ryan Morris; brother, David Longenecker of Laura, Ohio; and sister, Anita Longenecker of Laura, Ohio.

Marjorie Jeffers (January 18, 2011)
Marjorie “Midge” Jeffries. Our mother has ended what she called her “full wonderful life” on January 18, 2011 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 8, 1926 to the late Milton M. & Regina C. (Duval) Woodbury. She resided in Greenville her entire life. After graduating from Greenville High school class of 1944, excelling in bookkeeping, she worked for DP&L, the city water office, and Darke Rural Electric Cooperative. Active on many committees for the class of ’44 alumni association, she was an integral part in keeping this class together for many years.
Her competitive spirit led her to many years of participation on several bowling leagues including many national events. She was an avid golfer and will be sorely missed by her golfing buddies.
Midge will be remembered for her incredible strength and love of family residing in both Ohio and Texas. She leaves behind her son, David Jeffries; daughter, Linda Morrow; grandchildren, Amber Stump, Carmen Jeffries, Matthew, Jonathan and Rebecca Morrow; and 8 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank her incredible number of friends for their love and support. We know you will miss her beautiful smile and her outrageous sense of humor. She will remain forever in our hearts and asked us all to remember the good times.
There will be a private memorial service held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers it is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to the State of the Heart Hospice, Greenville High School Musical Department, or charity of your choice.
