Shirley Ann Cordonnier age 71, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 11:04 A.M. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. Shirley was born November 24, 1942 in Miami County, Ohio to the late Joseph M. & Luella J. (Bulcher) Berger.

Shirley is survived by her husband, LeRoy C. Cordonnier whom she married May 30, 1962; children, Mark & Lisa Cordonnier of Versailles, Steve & Judy Cordonnier of Versailles, Deborah & Todd Barga of Versailles and Kevin & Tina Cordonnier of Versailles; grandchildren, Scott & Mandy Christy, Megan & Zac Amand, Kelsey Cordonnier, Nate Cordonnier, Stephanie Cordonnier, Alex Cordonnier, Sarah Cordonnier, Adam Cordonnier, Austin Barga, Josie Barga, Seth Barga, Ashlyn Cordonnier, Taylor Cordonnier, Lily Cordonnier and Zach Cordonnier; great-grandchildren, Caleb & Abigail Christy; sisters & brother-in-law, Joan & Carl Langenkamp of Yorkshire and Marilyn Petitjean of Yuma, Arizona; sister-in-law, Debbie Berger of Beavercreek; brothers-in-law, Dennis Cordonnier of Ft. Loramie, Eugene & Vicky Cordonnier of Russia and Donald & Jean Cordonnier of Piqua; sisters-in-law, JoAnn & John Covelli of Sidney, Kathleen & George Subler of Versailles and Marleen & Tom Hemmelgarn of Russia; numerous nieces & nephews; and many great friends in Versailles and Yuma, Arizona where they wintered.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is also preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Berger; and a brother-in-law, Denis Petitjean.

Shirley retired from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Greenville where she was a Deputy Registrar. She formerly worked at the Versailles Policy. Shirley was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles where she formerly served on the Parish Council and was a Lay Distributor. Shirley formerly served as a volunteer of the Versailles Life Squad, former Cub Scout Den Mother, former Girl Scout Brownie Leader, and formerly coached girls youth softball. Shirley loved crocheting and traveling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Ron Haft celebrant and Rev. Deacon Andrew Cordonnier. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Mary Catherine Wilson (April 15, 2014)

Mary Catherine Wilson, 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 at Oakley Place in Greenville.

She was born July 26, 1927, in Greenville, daughter of the late Harold Lehman and Edna Marie (McCabe) Wilson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Marie (Wilson) and Fred Stephan; a niece, Connie Fetzer; and a nephew, Ronald Stephan.

Mary Catherine had owned and operated the former Brateman's Women Wear in Greenville from 1977 to 1990. A 1945 graduate of Greenville High School, she was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, and the Business Professional Woman Association in which she had served as president, Darke County Republican Party in which she was named Republican of the Year in 2002. She was also a member of the Ft. Greenville D.A.R., the Darke County McGuffie Club, Rebekah Lodge #266, the Darke County Chamber of Commerce having served on the Board of Directors, and she loved to play the organ.

Mary Catherine was the first write-in candidate to win election to the Greenville City Council in 1983. She had authored a book called "Broadway Memories". In retirement, she loved to travel and take bus trips.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Carol A. (Mike) Denton of Lynn, IN, James Fetzer of Clarkston, MI, Jackie Stephan of Lynn, IN; and great nieces and nephews, Lanett, Jerimy, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Aaron; great great nieces, Morgan and Kaibre; a very good friend, Norma Knick; and several cousins and close friends.

Services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, OH with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. till the time of service. The family request that memorial contribution be given to either the St. Paul's Lutheran Church or State of the Heart Hospice.

Hobart L. Gilbert (April 15, 2014)

Hobart L. Gilbert age 73, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:35 A.M. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his residence. Hobart was born April 30, 1940 in Evarts, Kentucky to the late Cecil Gilbert & Dorothy (Bunch) Gilbert Owens.

Hobart is survived by his companion, Jane Ganger of Greenville, Ohio; children, Jackie Jackson of Greenville, Ohio, Tony Gilbert of Union City, Ohio, Terry Gilbert of Greenville, Ohio, Bobby Gilbert of Greenville, Ohio and Toby Gilbert of Greenville, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lou Summers of Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Hobart is also preceded in death by his wife, Lorene (Campbell) Gilbert in 1994.

Hobart served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1975 during the Vietnam War. Hobart retired from Fram Corporation in Greenville. Hobart was a life member of the Greenville V.F.W. and member of the Greenville American Legion.

Valerie G. (Prim) Jones (April 11, 2014)

Valerie G. (Prim) Jones, 58, of Greenville, went to be with her Savior on April 11, 2014 at her residence. Valerie was born on September 23, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Lester and Doris (Rudolph) Prim.

Valerie enjoyed being a homemaker during her life. Her passions included Bible studies, praise and worship, reading books, being a caretaker and encouraging people. Valerie was a great writer and loved to laugh. Her greatest joys were spending time with family.
In addition to her parents, Valerie is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Ken" Jones who passed away on October 29, 1996; a brother, Byron Prim and an infant sister, Gloria May Prim.

Valerie is survived by a son, Adam Jones of Greenville; two daughters, Mandy Jones of Arcanum and Molly Jones of Greenville; three grandchildren, Brooklynn, Cheyenne and Michael Buteau of Arcanum; two brothers, Randy Prim of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Jerry and Lori Leigh Prim of Kissimmee, Florida; three sisters, Wanda and Bill Gilbert of Cape Coral, Florida, Melody and Phillip Rike of West Milton, Ohio and Lori and Ken Moyer of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Lighthouse Christian Center in Greenville with Rev. Hershel Fee officiating. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10:00 AM - noon. Burial will follow in the Greenville-Union Cemetery. William L. “Bill” Holmes Sr. (April 12, 2014)

William L. “Bill” Holmes Sr., age 77, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 6:00 PM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on November 1, 1936 in Battle Creek, Michigan, to the late Halford & Irene (Eubank) Holmes.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Titia Rose (Smith) Holmes of Greenville; children, Joyce (Keith) Thwaits of Greenville, William “Bill” (Lori) Holmes Jr. of Sebring, Florida, John (Marcia) Holmes Sr. of Fairborn, Ohio, and Jayne (Roger) Cassel of Kettering, Ohio; grandchildren, Kelly (Matt) Carter, John (Britni) Holmes Jr., Amy (Michael) Cost, Stephanie (Matt) Maupin, Stacey (Matt) Mills, Nic (Taylor Hamlin) Cassel, Jeffrey (Rachel) Holmes, Jennifer (Jerome Dotson) Holmes and Breanna Cassel and 8 great grandchildren.

Bill worked at McClains Inc. and retired from Westlake Supply. He was an auxiliary member of the Greenville Fire Department, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Greenville and was treasurer for 21 years of the Central Western Fireman’s Association.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 7584 Ohio 118, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Wayne Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 AM until the time of the service at church. In addition to her parents, Collette is also survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Tim & Kristin Weaver of Versailles, Ohio; sisters & brother-in-law, Jill Brown of Houston, Texas and Beth & Clayton Watkins on Wheaton, Illinois; and nieces and nephews, Alex Weaver, Molly Weaver, Tim Weaver, Sam Brown, John Brown, William Watkins and Olivia Watkins.

Collette was a member of Living Hope Assembly of God in St. Marys, Ohio. Collette was a graduate of Versailles High School, Miami University and member of Gamma Phi Beta.

Vicki S. Mills, age 47 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:02 A.M. Friday April 11, 2014 at Heartland of Greenville. She was born May 4, 1966 in Bluffton, Indiana and the daughter of Bobby Fisher of Brownwood, Texas and the late Yvonne Marie “Bonnie” (Mittlestedt) Fisher.

Survivors in addition to her father are her children Rebecca Hoff, Amanda Mills and Jeff Mills all of Greenville; grandchildren Elizabeth Nickson, Skylynn Mills, Autumn Marie Mills and Bentley Houck; brother David Alan Fisher of Dayton; sister Deanna Fisher Burdsall of Floyds Knobs, Indiana and numerous nieces.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday April 15, 2014 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with burial following in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of the services in the funeral home.

Thelma L. (Foureman) Pilcher (April 6, 2014)

Thelma L. (Foureman) Pilcher, 88, of Thornton, CO, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton.

She was born October 18, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Howard L. and Carrie Ann (Wogoman) Foureman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Pilcher; sister, Bernice Behrens; and a brother, Warren D. Foureman.

Thelma was a homemaker. She attended Oakland School through the 8th grade and graduated from the old Franklin High School in 1943.

She is survived by her sons, Brian and Richard Pilcher of Thornton, CO; brother, Floyd E. (Betty M.) Foureman of Greenville, OH; sister, Elizabeth J. Runion of Houston, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 16, from 10 - 11am, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery.

Terence Joseph Schwanitz (April 10th, 2014)

Terence Joseph Schwanitz, 85, having fought a long and courageous battle, passed away at home in Greenville, Ohio on the morning of April 10th, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 26th, 1928 in Port Austin, Michigan, son of the late George and Mae (Clancy) Schwanitz, on the family farm and was the third of six children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Heyboer, and two brothers, George "Bud" Schwanitz and Patrick Schwanitz. He was a 1946 graduate of Bad Axe High School in Bad Axe, Michigan, attended Wayne State University in Detroit and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Judy (Yaroch) Schwanitz; his six children, Gary (Sharon) Schwanitz of Troy; Jan Teaford of Greenville; Dan (Paula) Schwanitz of Greenville; Neil (Ging) Schwanitz of Marshall Islands; Beth (Bill) VanKirk of Kansas; and Tina (Jeff) Waltke of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph (Barb) Schwanitz and Mike Schwanitz of Michigan; brothers in-law and sisters-in- law Rich (Alice) Yaroch and Larry (Florence) Yaroch of Michigan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He started his career as a tool and die maker for Hall Lamp in Detroit. He was an engineer with Jervis, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and then went on to become the Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Sheller Globe Corporation in Union City, Indiana, and the Chief Product Engineer at Siegel-Robert, Inc. in St. Louis.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and the Greenville Elks. More than anything, he loved his wife and family. He was a devoted and amazing husband, father, and grandfather. Despite many years of declining health, he never lost his sense of humor.

Before he left this world, he asked that we thank everyone who touched his life and made his journey easier. Thank you for the kindness, prayers, and the love shown to him and his family.

A Memorial Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 A.M. Monday April 14, 2014 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West Third St., Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father John R. White celebrating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to State of the Heart Hospice.

Stanley L. Johnson, age 86, of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 2:40 a.m. at Oakley House in Greenville, Ohio. He was born on December 19, 1927, in Preble County, Ohio, to the late James & Lora (Stover) Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Howdieshell Burns) Johnson, of Arcanum, Ohio, whom he married on March 6, 1976; daughter, Sandra (Joe) Thomas of Arcanum, Ohio; son, Michael (Brenda) Johnson of West Manchester, Ohio; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Sherry (Steve) Hubler; stepsons, Kent Burns, Kris (Shelley) Burns, and Kraig Burns; ten step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Johnson.

Stanley was a farmer for 30 years and also a bus driver for Arcanum Butler Local Schools for 26 years. He attended Castine Church of the Brethren and loved camping and traveling.

Services will be held Monday, April 14, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Castine Church of the Brethren with Pastor ¬Gary Cloyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as from 10-10:30 a.m. at the church of Monday.

Walter M. “Wally” Day (April 9, 2014)

Walter M. “Wally” Day age 77, of Union City, Indiana passed away at 10:55 A.M. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at his residence. Wally was born April 9, 1937 in Buffalo, New York to the late Vernon “Bud” & Catherine (Sutter) Day.

Wally is survived by his wife, Paula (McEldowney) Day whom he married October 21, 2006; sons & daughters-in-law, Jeffrey & Kress Day of Hamburg, New York and Scott & Nichole Day of Orchard Park, New York; step daughter, Carrie Clemons of Union City, Indiana; and 10 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Wally is also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

Wally served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a retired restaurant manager.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Larry Eugene Duke, 66, of Cincinnati, passed away on March 19, 2014 at the Dayton Veterans hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Larry was born on July 1, 1947 in Paoli, Indiana to the late Walter and Virginia (Shenkle) Duke.

Larry was a Bio Tech at the Veterans Administration and served his country honorably in the United Stated Navy.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia.

Larry is survived by his brothers, Jack Duke and Carol Huntington of Greenville, Ohio, Jerry Duke and wife Dee of Somerset, Kentucky, Charlie Duke of Marengo, Indiana and a half brother, James Thobe of Gettysburg, Ohio.

Melvin L. Gehron, 78, of New Weston, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Heartland of Greenville.

He was born March 26, 1936 in Darke County, Ohio, son of the late Daniel W. and Anna May (Gause) Gehron. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marie E. (Rose) Gehron who passed away August 29, 2004; and a sister, Bernice Rhodes.

Melvin was retired from Corning of Greenville and New Idea of Coldwater. He had served in the Korean War while in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion of North Star, North Star Fire Department and Corning retirees.

He is survived by his children, Jeff Gehron of Celina, Bonnie Gehron of Laura, Phil Gehron of North Star; grandchildren, Jennifer (Thom) Hensley of Union City, OH, Jessica Gehron of Flint, MI, Matthew Moehl of Greenville, Jeanelle Gehron of Union City, OH; great grandson, Ethan Moehl; sisters, Corda Leeper of North Star, Margaret Miles of Greenville; and a brother, Willard (Karen) Gehron of North Star.

Services with full military honors by the Greenville Honor Guard will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April12, 2014 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Scott Trittschuh officiating. Burial will follow in Ansonia Cemetery.

Margaret Evelyn Hile, age 101, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 9:15 AM at the Versailles Health Care Center in Versailles, Ohio. She was born on August 14, 1912 in Liberty Township, Darke County, Ohio, to the late Joseph C. & Bessie E. (Harding) Ross.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Ira Hile whom she married on June 28, 1933; brothers, E. Mac, Homer, Carl “W.C.”, Herman and Harding Ross.

Margaret is a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church. She retired as a Government Egg Grader for Versailles Egg Auction (Poultry Producers) as well as a homemaker.

There will be a service held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bob White (April 3, 2014)

Bob White, 76, of Greenville, passed away Thursday morning, April 3, 2014 at his residence.

He was born March 16, 1938 in Logan, WV, son of the late Ray and Estie (Hager) White. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.

Bob had retired from the former Valor Enterprises where he had worked a sales representative. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was a member of the Elk’s, Eagle’s, Moose, Greenville Masonic Lodge #143, Scottish Rite and the Darke County Shrine Club.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sondra K. (Shiverdecker) White, whom he married September 27, 1980; children, Michelle (Scott) Ritchie, Carl (Tina) Hoskins, Tracy (John) Schmidt, Roberta White, and Chuck White; grandchildren, Evan, Scotty, Heather, Jessica, Tricia, Courtney, Tiffany, Isaac, and David.

A Masonic memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Dorthea Faye Cook, 88, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at her home in Matlacha, Florida.

She was born February 7, 1926 in Greenville, OH, daughter of the late Chester and Gennieve Mong. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Chalmer Clawson and Ray Cook, brothers, LaDon Mong, Morris Mong; sisters, Cathryn Byrne, and Jennetta Stockslager; and a nephew, Donnie Mong.

She is survived by her nephews, Ronald Mong of Upper Sandusky, OH, Mikel Byrne, Middlesboro, KY, John Stockslager, Harold Stockslager both of Greenville, OH, Phillip Stockslager of Nashville, TN; and a niece, Janet Hunley of Indianapolis, IN.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 7, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Tony Hunley, Faye's great nephew, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Lee Elsass (March 27, 2014)

Lee Elsass, age 80 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:10 P.M. Thursday March 27, 2014 at the Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio. He was born June 1, 1933 in Clarksville, Ohio and the son of the late Harry John and Ava Della (Bagford) Elsass.

Lee was retired following a 33 year career as an Elementary School Principal and teacher. He also had served in the military during peacetime, a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Elk’s Lodge and a Lifetime member of the Optimist Club, all of Greenville and a member of the Ohio and Darke County Retired Teachers Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Wilt) Elsass October 5, 2013. They were married August 25, 1957.

Lee is survived by his children Lorri (Jeff) Shoop of Greenville, Larry Elsass of Margate, Florida and Lowell Elsass of Greenville; grandchildren Krystin, Lyndsey and Conner Elsass, Dirk Shoop; great grandchildren Lexi and Lucas Shoop; sister Helen Burden of Sidney, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday April 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the St. John Lutheran Church 7418 State Route 121-N. Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Patti Morlock officiating. Private burial will be held in the St. John Church Cemetery. The will be no public visitation.

Gary Duane Fox Sr. (March 26, 2014)

Gary Duane Fox Sr., age 64 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 11:15 P.M. Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Dayton Veteran’s Administration Hospice Unit Dayton, Ohio. He was born April 12, 1949 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Robert and Isabelle (Brown) Fox.

Gary was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a former member of the Arcanum V.F.W.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Nathan Fox.

Gary is survived by his children Sherry Corzine of Cincinnati, Ohio; Gary Duane Fox Jr. of Dowling, Michigan and Tom Fox of Greenville; grandchildren Terra, Josh, Bryant, Jordan and Darrell; brother Richard Fox of Greenville; sisters Deb Netzley and Diane Nestor both of Greenville; special friend Roberta Shope of Arcanum and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday March 31, 2014 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with burial following in the Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 A.M. until time of the services in the funeral home.

Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard at the funeral home Monday morning.
