James “Jim” I. Dunwoody (September 20, 2020)

James “Jim” I. Dunwoody, 88, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 20, 2020, at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville, Ohio.

He was born on December 7, 1931, in North Star, Ohio, to the late Benjamin and Mary (Nisonger) Dunwoody.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his great grandson, Will; and his siblings, Evelyn (Duane) Meyer and Ruth (Carl) Dowdy.

Jim enjoyed being outdoors. From hunting to fishing, he enjoyed all the beauty that nature had to offer. He was a carpenter and loved to build things, especially for his family. During many trips to visit with family, Jim would end up either fixing something for them or building them something. Aside from being a self-employed carpenter, Jim also spent many years as a farmer. When he was not building bird houses or helping others, Jim could be found inside enjoying a Louis L’amour book. Jim was a proud veteran and honorably served in the United State Army during the Korean War. He was a charter member of the Ansonia Area Rescue and was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville.

Jim is survived by his wife, Janet (Kuhn) Dunwoody, whom he married on December 7, 1985; his children, Diann (Larry Irvin) Dunwoody, Linda (Bob) Cornett, Gayle (Jim) Rismiller, Eric (Darlene) Smith, Adam (Candace) Smith, and Shelley (Brad) Knick; his grandchildren, Darren (Maggie), Craig (Firouzeh), Mark (Janelle), Justin (Jamie), Jessica (J.P.), Jackson, Grayson, Alex, Katrina, Krystal, and Destiny; his great grandchildren, Riley, Sam, Tate, Eli, Emily, Blake, Ian, Molly, Lily, Cooper, Hallie, and Matthew; his siblings, Ina (Bob) Meeds, Janice Anderson, and Joyce Dunwoody; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Father Wayne Rollins officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Altha Jane (Allread) Sullenbarger (September 21, 2020)

Altha Jane (Allread) Sullenbarger, 79 of New Paris, Ohio passed away on Monday September 21, 2020 at 9:01 AM at State of The Heart Care Center, Greenville, Ohio.  She was born March 12, 1941 in Preble County, Ohio the daughter of the late Norman & Sarah Verona Allread.  She worked at K Mart in Eaton Ohio.

She was a member of  Jan Hagara Collectors Club; and the Mid-Ohio Collectors Club; She loved the library and reading with mysteries being her favorite thing to read; she loved to compete and won several blue ribbons at the Great Darke County Fair in the candy display and baking categories; she enjoyed taking care of her flowers at her home and loved her peach roses; she was active at the Preble County Senior Center; she loved to shop and always kept up on the current fashions; she loved to dress up for Halloween;  she cared for her family and friends and put them before herself and sent them cards and notes letting them know she cares; she loved to bake for the Hueston Woods family trip and holidays making great pies;  she enjoyed attending the melodrama plays at Annie Oakley Days.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband:  Vernon “Dale” Sullenbarger Sr. on January 6, 2019 whom she married on August 6, 1960; and her brother:  Stephen Allread.

She is survived by her children to whom she was a good mother:  Suzy (Rick) Orbik of Richmond, Teresa Sullenbarger of Kettering, & Dale Sullenbarger Jr. of Union City, Ohio; her grandchildren:  Jessica Anderson, Courtney (James) Hernandez, Zak Anderson, & Drew Sullenbarger; great grandchildren:  Jackson, Thatcher, & River Thompson, Junie Gross, Abraham & Theodore Hernandez; her sister:  Anna Allread of Greenville; her sister in law:  Sharon Allread of Georgia; numerous nieces, & nephews and numerous lifelong friends that she continued to keep in touch with.

Services will be held on Friday September 25, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Chaplain Jacque Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday September 24, 2020 and 1 hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Care.

Vernon A. Mangen (September 19, 2020)

Vernon A. Mangen, age 52 of Versailles, Ohio passed away suddenly at his home, on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Born in Greenville, Ohio on April 13, 1968 he was a son to the late Nelson & Armella (Knoth) Mangen. Vernon was a welding fabricator for Fabcore in Minster, Ohio for 20 years. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing pool, and enjoying life. He was a caring father, and loved spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren. Vernon was loved by many, and will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Mary Jane Mangen.

Imogene V. Michael (September 19, 2020)

Imogene V. Michael, 87, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of New Weston, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Village Green Health Campus in Greenville.

She was born on August 1, 1933, in rural Darke County to the late Nelson and Grace (Sharp) Miller.

In addition to her parents, Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Michael, whom she married on September 5, 1950; her sons-in-law, George W. Thornhill, Jerry Stucke, and Jim Cox; her daughter-in-law, Sue Michael; one great granddaughter and one great-great granddaughter; and her brothers, Leon Miller, Vernon Miller, and Glen Miller.

Imogene loved spending time with her family. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed going to the casino from time to time. She and her husband, Bob, were members of the Moose Lodge #417, Eagles Lodge #3025, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Coldwater, Ohio.

Imogene is survived by her children, Karen Stucke of St. Henry, Ohio, Sharon Miller and her husband, Tim, of Ansonia, Ohio, Deb Kaiser and her husband, John, of New Weston, Randy Michael of Muncie, Indiana, and Sandy Thornhill-Cox of Rossburg, Ohio; her 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Richard Miller of Kansas.

A private celebration of Imogene’s life will take place at the convenience of the family with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery.

Pauline E. Berry (September 11, 2020)

Pauline E. Berry, 99 of Versailles, Ohio passed away on Thursday September 11, 2020 at 12:55 AM at Versailles Rehab and Healthcare Center.  She was born April 10, 1921 in Yorkshire, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ernest & Cora (Boham) Apple.

Pauline was a homemaker and retired after 25 years as the manager of the Versailles Elementary School Cafeteria.  She was a member of Versailles Christian Church; she was a Deaconess of the church, member of Philathea Women’s Fellowship of the Church, member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Versailles.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband:  George Ward Berry on October 13, 1994 whom she married March 9, 1942 her grandsons, Todd L. Prenger, Brent W. Berry; granddaughter, Sarah M. Berry; her sisters, Kathryn Foster, June Keller, & Annabel Subler; her brothers, Walter, Norbert, James, Lester & Ralph Apple.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Rhea) Berry of Dexter, Michigan, Diane (Larry) Prenger of Versailles, Judith. Berry of Englewood, Ohio;  grandchildren, Craig (Tammy) Prenger, Stacy Grisez, Kim (Mark) Monnier; great grandchildren, Cassie Prenger and Fiancé Nic Bronkall, Courtney (Dan) Moorehead, Noah Grisez, Hannah Grisez, Cole Prenger, and Jaden Prenger;  sister:  Betty Liddy of Piqua; brother in law, Donald Keller; sister in law, Connie Apple; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday October 3, 2020 at11:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Dr. Kim Katterheinrich and Pastor Nick Dimmick officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Harold E. Schultz (September 18, 2020)

Harold E. Schultz, age 92 of Versailles, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at his home, on Friday, September 18, 2020. Born in Shelby County, Ohio on February 10, 1928 he was one of 7 children to the late Otho & Mabel (Snyder) Schultz. Harold was a proud United States Army veteran, having served from 1946-47. Harold retired from Midmark Corp, but was a lifelong farmer. He was a devoted blood donor for over 35 years. Harold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He will be truly missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Thelma (Schrader) Schultz: son David Schultz: brothers Paul, Roy, and Gale Schultz.

Joy L. Mills (September 18, 2020)

Joy L. Mills, 51, of Hollansburg, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born on January 18, 1969, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Archie and Barbara (Clark) Swink.

In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her uncles, Merle Schenck and John Clark.

First and foremost, Joy loved her “wind therapy”. She was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed being on the road. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She would spend all the time she could with them. When she was not on her bike or with her family, Joy enjoyed being outdoors, going fishing, listening to country and bluegrass music, and attending races, especially at the Shadybowl Speedway. She looked forward to Christmas each year and was known for her love of decorating for the holidays. Joy loved Donald Trump and was a big supporter of the Second Amendment.

Joy is survived by her husband, Ron Mills, whom she married on September 9, 2017; her children, Trent Swink of Richmond, Indiana, Travis Herron and his wife, Lisa, of Eaton, Ohio, and Brandie Swink and her husband, Wyatt, of Hollansburg; her stepchildren, Jesse Mills of Montpelier, Ohio, and Haley Foster and her husband, Erin, of Greenville; her grandchildren, Emma Kavy, Gracie Kavy, Drayden Foster, Jalynn Phillips, Kaelynn Swink, Kinslee Kavy, Jason Schaffer, Chandler Foster, and Samuel Herron; her Brothers-in-law, Tom Cline of Union City, Indiana, and Jim Mills of Glen Karn, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Petitjean and her husband, Wilbur, of Versailles, Ohio; her aunts and uncles, Gladys Schenck, Joyce Comp, Bonnie Lunsford and her husband, Rudy, Carol Clark, and Paula Alder and her husband, Kevin; her best friend, Lisa Eaton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley A. Thompson (September 10, 2020)

Shirley A. Thompson, 83, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, September 10, 2020.

She was born on March 30, 1937, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Albert and Anges (Bigelow) Lybarger.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Thompson, whom she married on March 23, 1957; and her son, Ned Thompson.

Shirley grew up in Van Wert County, Ohio, and was a 1955 graduate of Convoy-Union High School, along with her future husband, Marlin Thompson. Shirley worked at Van Wert National Bank as Marlin worked toward his teaching degree at Bowling Green State University. They lived in Grover Hill, Ohio, in Paulding County for several years as Marlin started his teaching career and then moved to Ansonia where they raised their family. Shirley was a resident of Ansonia for over fifty years. She was an active member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church, serving on the Church's Outreach Committee and food pantry for many years. Shirley was a very giving person and a good friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Jill (Andy) Ulrich of Whitehouse, Ohio, and two grandsons Kyle (Kari) Thompson and Justin Thompson, both from Greenville, Ohio.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2020, at the Ansonia United Methodist Church, 200 West High Street, Ansonia, Ohio, with Pastor Roger Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Shirley's family will be receiving guests on Friday, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.

James "Jim" E. Falknor (September 17, 2020)

James "Jim" E. Falknor, 89, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana.

He was born on October 3, 1930, in New Madison, Ohio to the late John and Marie (Eley) Falknor.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Campbell) Falknor, whom he married on August 1, 1953; and his siblings, Ruthanna Butts, Helen Hodgins, and John Falknor.

Jim loved his sports. Not only did he enjoy watching the games, he even coached a few teams throughout the years. He especially liked to watch baseball and was an avid Dayton Dragons and Cincinnati Reds fan. Jim attended many Tri-Village sporting events and continued to do so even after his grandkids were out of school. Jim was also a big supporter of his community. He supported the annual school fair and 4th of July celebrations, just to name a few. When he was not watching sports, Jim enjoyed woodworking and refinishing old tables and chairs. Jim loved his family and enjoyed visits from his grandkids and great grandkids

Jim was a 1947 graduate of New Madison High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned the rank, Sargent. Jim work for the Ohio Department of Transportation in Darke County until he retired with over 25 years of service. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 245, in New Madison for many years.

Jim is survived by his sons, Kris Falknor of Kettering, Ohio, and Kirk Falknor and his wife, Becky, of Maumee, Ohio; his grandchildren, Nathan Falknor of Florida, Claire Falknor of Spain, Jessica Necessary of Bowling Green, Ohio, Brandon Falknor and his wife, Melissa, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kasey Moon and her husband, Kevin, of Haskins, Ohio; his great grandchildren, Shelby Necessary, Trenton, Tess, and Tate Falknor, and Rhigan and Jameson Moon.

A graveside service, with full military honors conducted by the Greenville Honor Guard, will take place at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 21, 2020, at Greenmound Cemetery with Pastor Tony Price officiating.

Courtney Lynn Nelson (September 13, 2020)

Courtney Lynn Nelson, 30, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Adena Pike Medical Center in Waverly, Ohio.

She was born on October 11, 1989, in Georgetown, Ohio to Diana Wilson of Ansonia, and the late Marion Nelson of Stout, Ohio, who passed away in July 2020.

Courtney was born with everything stacked against her. She had cerebral palsy and scoliosis which confined her to a wheelchair or bed. She had several other health issues she had to cope with on a daily basis, but in spite of this, she was happy. She loved to be outside and to take boat rides. She loved to meet people and make new friends. She loved to laugh, play and make noise. Anyone who met her couldn't help but fall in love with her. She brightened any room she was in and that light will forever be missed by anyone fortunate enough to have felt it.

In addition to her mother, Courtney is survived by her sister, Cheyenna Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio; her brother, Jeremy Nelson and his wife Melissa, of Largo, Florida; her step-father, David Bowers of Ansonia; her step-sisters, Caitlyn Blowers and her husband L.J. of Woodington, Ohio, and Taylor Bowers of Bellefontaine, Ohio; her step-grandparents, Lowell and Katherine Bowers of Ansonia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of Courtney's life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Deborah K. Shuff (September 15, 2020)

Deborah K. Shuff, 69, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

She was born on November 23, 1950, in Greenville to Betty (Lease) Brodrick and the late Robert Brodrick.

Debbie was a 1969 graduate of Greenville High School. She worked in the medical field for many years as a phlebotomist and an LPN. Debbie truly loved her family and her puppies, and she enjoyed spending time with them. When she was not playing with her puppies, Debbie could be found outside doing yard work. She took great pride in her yard and always made sure it was perfect. Debbie always put others first and made sure everyone was taken care of before herself.

In addition to her mother, Debbie is survived by her husband of 50 years, John R. Shuff, whom she married on February 7, 1970; her children, Tammi Price and her husband, Joe, of Greenville, and Rob Shuff of Greenville; her grandson, Jacob Price and his wife, Amanda, of Fort Irwin, California; and her sisters, Roberta Ditty and her husband, Mike, of Greenville, and Marceena Hamilton and her husband, Randy, of Tennessee.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will take place at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 21, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Shawn Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomers Cemetery.

James “Jimmy” Allen Seman (September 15, 2020)

James “Jimmy” Allen Seman, age 73 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. Born in Darke County, Ohio on March 17, 1947 he was a son to the late Warren & Merna (Hess) Seman. Jimmy had been a former member of the Versailles Eagles. He enjoyed bowling, and watching any kind of sporting events. Jimmy loved helping his neighbors, and took pride in his community, he “bled orange & black”. He had a smile that was unforgettable, and he will be truly missed. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother in infancy.

Survived by his sister Wanda Baker: nieces and nephews Robin & John Hess; Cathy Robison; James “Rusty” & Rose Whittaker; Shawna & John Tobens: numerous great-nieces & nephews and great-great nieces & nephews: and all his friends at Fleur-De-Lis.

Michael Robert Chellis (September 8, 2020)

Michael Robert Chellis, 70, of West Manchester, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio

Mike was born August 4, 1950, in Dayton, to the late Robert and Dottie (Poe) Chellis.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milton and Iris Pride.

It would be impossible to sum up Mike in just a couple short paragraphs, but we will do our best. Mike was a man of many talents, skills and a vast knowledge of many things. He was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He considered himself a lucky man: he married the love of his life. He and Pam raised two amazing children who grew up to be fine young men. He was a man of his word and made sure his children followed that code of honor. He was a perfectionist and there was absolutely nothing he couldn't do. He was an amazing woodworker and made many beautiful things.

Mike loved to ride motorcycles. Being on two wheels made him feel free. He and Pam have put countless miles riding their Honda Goldwing all over the United States and Canada. He was a member of the Goldwing Association since 1995. They loved taking trips in their little FIAT Spyder.

Mike was a kind man. He would do anything he could to help a stranger. He loved to make people laugh and loved to laugh with them. He loved hanging out with his "buddies" and having a good time. He would never do anything half-assed. He lived his life to its fullest and felt God had blessed him with a wonderful life. According to Mike, there are only three ways of doing things: the right way, the wrong way, and Mike's way. We can only imagine the advice God is getting at this very moment.

Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pam (Troutwine) Chellis, whom he married November 11, 1972; his sons, Shawn Chellis and his partner Beth, of Piqua, Ohio, and Tyrell Chellis from Eaton, Ohio; his siblings, Vickie Vince and her husband Dan, of Ontario, Canada, Andy Chellis of Florida, Cheri Johnson of Florida, and Brenda Hembree of Eldorado, Ohio. Randy Duane Clifton (September 10, 2020)

Randy Duane Clifton, 56, of Bradford, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at his home.

He was born on November 11, 1963, in Henry County, Indiana, to the late George Clifton and Della (Cooper) Buchanan.

In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Buchanan, Sr.; and his sisters, Janie Plummer and Mary Brickler.

Randy was a very simple man and was a private person. However, those who knew Randy know that he had a great sense of humor and was very easy going. He loved to be outdoors, going fishing, and enjoyed collecting knifes and guns. He liked to talk about his passions with his family and friends, especially his interest in race cars and antique cars. Randy liked to tinker with anything he could get his hands on, such as lawnmowers, cars, and any other motors he could find.

Randy is survived by his daughter, Kari Moore and her husband, Aaron, of Batesville Arkansas; his grandchildren, Arianna and Heath Moore; his siblings, Mallie Case and her husband, Robert, of Gettysburg, Ohio, Ralph Clifton amd his wife, Kim, of Troy, Ohio, and George Clifton and his wife, Cathy, of Greenville; his brother-in-law, Rod Brickler of Greenville; and his niece and caregiver, Jaime Wolford of Greenville, along with many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of Randy’s life will take place at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.

Guests may visit with Randy’s family from 3:00 PM until the time of service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

Richard Ray Skinner (September 1, 2020)

Richard Ray Skinner, 76, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

He was born on February 26, 1944, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Forest and Faye (Kauffman) Skinner.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Skinner.

Richard loved anything to do with the outdoors...hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. He and Barbara enjoyed many trips to Canada and traveling through Alaska with their camper. He was a huge gun and knife enthusiast and enjoyed showing off his collection. He worked extremely hard as a professional painter and took great pride in his work. He started Skinner Painting in 1965, when he was 18 years old, and continued until he retired at age 70. He was not shy about pointing out a job he had done somewhere along a Sunday drive.

He loved what he did, but he was never shy to try other things; like driving a truck, flying an airplane (private pilot), and butchering his own meat. He loved to read magazines and books about anything to do with history and was always fascinated by the Civil War. He never met a stranger and loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. He was a life-long resident of Darke County, which always had a special place in his heart. However, he loved to travel and see other parts of the country. He was a devoted husband, caring father, and amazing grandfather. He would do anything for his children and made it a point to never missed his grandchildren’s events.

Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara (Houdeshell) Skinner, whom he married on January 30, 1965; his children, Rick Skinner and his wife, Kris, of Richmond, Kentucky, and Julie Skinner of Greenville; his grandchildren, Katelyn Skinner Hughes, Kyle Skinner, and Brayden Skinner; his sister, Kay White of Laramie, Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.

Alta V. Sowry (September 6, 2020)

Alta V. Sowry, 77, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born on October 5, 1942, in Saint George, West Virginia, to the late Homer and Lena (Wilt) Shaffer.

In addition to her parents, Alta was preceded in death by her brother, Vinton Shaffer, and her sister, Lena Nester.

Alta wore many hats: mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was no stranger to hard work and that showed through her impressive career. She worked over 20 years at Westinghouse then for Elder Beerman department stores for over 30 years until it closed. Over those many years working in the cosmetics department, she made many friends and would frequently remember all her old customers. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and would rarely miss them. She loved spring and summer and you would frequently find her tending to her flower beds. When she found time to relax, she would curl up with Lucy and read or watch television.

Alta is survived by her children, Anthony Sowry and his wife Marcia, of Arcanum, Ohio, and Jodi Fitzgerald and her husband Rob, of Greenville; her grandchildren, Josh Shilt of Huber Heights, Ohio, Justin and Justine Shilt of Greenville, and Matthew Sullenbarger of Piqua, Ohio; her three great granddaughters, Elizabeth, Arabel, and Melana; her sisters, Rose Detling of Greenville, and Brenda Deford of Stanton, California. She also leaves behind her dear yorkie, Lucy and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Alta's life will be held at 12 noon on Monday, September 14, 2020, with Pastor Don Smith officiating, at Tribute Funeral Homes Greenville Campus.

Her family will be receiving guests on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Matthew C. Brown (September 5, 2020)

Matthew C. Brown age 45, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at his residence.

He was born September 23, 1974, in Greenville, Ohio, to Jerry Brown and Karen (Smith) Fiste, both of Greenville.

 Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward Lewis Brown; his maternal grandparents, William and Icy Smith; his step grandmother, Treva Fiste; and his aunt, Janet Smith.

Matthew loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was known to give people a hard time and enjoyed picking on others. He liked to go fishing, especially at Lake Loramie. Matthew spent over 20 years working for Bowman Concessions. During the winter, you could find Matthew at Flory’s Landscaping plowing Snow. When he was not working, Matthew enjoyed building things with Legos, watching TV and spending time in the garage.

In addition to his parents, Matthew is survived by his wife, Kelly (Hiestand) Brown, whom he married on October 28, 2017; his stepmother, Joan Brown of Greenville; his stepfather, Ron Fiste of Greenville; his siblings, Melissa Ramsey and her husband, Clayton of Greenville, Shawn Fiste of Greenville, John Hester of Montgomery, Alabama, Mike Nixon of League City, Texas, and Dawn Martinez of League City, Texas; his paternal grandmother, Bonnie Owens of Union City, Ohio; his step grandfather, Bob Fiste, Sr. of Greenville; his nieces and nephews, Cody Brown and his wife, Natasha of Hollansburg, Jessica Trimpi and her husband, Kyle of Greenville, Ryan Klopfer of Greenville, Brittany Carr and her husband, Eric of Sidney, Dallas Hughes of Columbus, Dustin Watkins of Sidney, Matthew Blankenship of Pleasant Hill, Elijah Hiestand of Ansonia, and Ariel Hiestand of Ansonia; and many great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Matthew’s life will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Jim Morehouse officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Daniel C. Kender (September 3, 2020)

Daniel C. Kender, 75, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Greenville.

He was born on February 19, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Aloysious and Audrey (Pappin) Kenderski.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Janice.

Dan spent many years living in Pueblo, Colorado, where he developed many friends and colleagues. He was an attorney and operated his own family law firm in Pueblo. Dan was a graduate of Kent State University with his law degree and was a long-time member of the Pueblo Bar Association. He was an animal lover who enjoyed the company of many pets through the years including his parrots, Mayday and Rudy and his dog, Heidi. From hiking through the woods to skiing down mountains, Dan loved the outdoors and all it had to offer. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed being on the water. Dan also enjoyed traveling, especially throughout Europe. Dan honorably served his country in the United States Navy. After his service in the Navy, he continued his service for his country in the United States Army as a lawyer.

Dan is survived by his children, Kristian A. Kender of Beijing, China, Mary T. Chatfield and her husband, Dale, of Warren, Ohio and their mother, Teresa McCleary, Maria L. Verma and her husband, Ashish, of Monroe, Connecticut, Nicole G. Mead and her husband, Joel, of Versailles, Ohio and their mother, Mary R. Kender; his 6 grandchildren; his brother, Gary W. Kenderski; and many friends and family.

A celebration of Dan’s life, with full military honors, will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus with Father David Vincent officiating.

Phyllis Jeanette Davis (September 7, 2020)

Phyllis Jeanette Davis, age 97 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:30 AM Monday September 7, 2020 at the Brethren Retirement Community of Greenville.  She was born March 25, 1923 in Darke County Ohio and the daughter of the late David Earl and Pansy (Garrison) Loy.

Phyllis was retired having worked many years as the bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business “C.W. Davis Construction” and as an appliance consultant at Hansbarger’s Appliance Store of Greenville.  Phyllis was also an active volunteer at the Shawnee Prairie Preserve.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband C.W. Davis October 11, 2013.  They were married December 24, 1941.  Also sisters Martha Denlinger, Katherine Riffle, Margaret Stager and a brother in infancy. 

Phyllis is survived by her son and daughter in law Jim & JoAnn Davis of Greenville; grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Davis, Kimberly Davis and her significant other Jerry Bunch Jr and his children and Jessica (Jon) Davis Mardin; great grandchildren, Alex Davis, Zac Davis, Connor Davis and fiancé Taylor Tedore, Foster Cole and Benjamin Mardin; great great grandchildren Auburn Davis, Damon Tedore and Christian Tedore as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Graveside Services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Abbottsville Cemetery Arcanum, Ohio.

Miriam L. Brown (September 5, 2020)

Miriam L. Brown, 89, of Richmond, Indiana, formerly of New Paris, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Arbor Trace Nursing Home in Richmond.

She was born on October 17, 1930, in New Paris to the late Olis and Anna (Hankey) Knox.

In addition to her parents, Miriam is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Edward G. Brown, who passed away on August 29, 2020; her brother, Robert C. Knox; and four nephews, Billy, Paul, Jimmy, and Randy.

Miriam loved getting together with her family and friends and enjoyed cooking meals for them on Sundays. She loved taking mini trips with her sisters, especially to the casinos. She always put her family first in all that she did. Miriam enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her yard and flowers.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Paris. She was involved in the church throughout her life and served on many committees. Miriam worked in the church food pantry for many years helping families in need. She also worked at Montgomery Ward and London Fog in Richmond and held several managerial positions. Miriam retired in 2015 from Lee Plastic Company in Eaton.

Miriam is survived by her four sons, Ed (Barb) Brown of Eaton, David (Linda) Brown of Germantown, Ohio, Doug (Tammy) Brown of New Madison, Ohio, and Robert (Brenda) Brown of Greenville, Ohio; her grandchildren, Christie Barker, Kelly (Matt) Pease, Anthony (Kim) Brown, Kimberly (Jesse) Cunningham, Laura Melling, Justin Brown, Doug Brown, and Tiffany (Nick) Thomas and Lindsey (James) Allen; her 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Beatrice Lawrence, Doris Smallwood, Phyllis Turner, Carol (Wayne) Bowen; her brothers, Richard Knox and Gene (Jeanne) Knox; and many extended family and friends.

A celebration of Miriam’s life will take place at 11:30 AM on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris.

Guests may visit with Miriam’s family on Thursday from 10:30 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
