Mr. John R. Hathaway, age 80 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:40 A.M. Tuesday May 11, 2010 in the Heartland Nursing Home of Greenville. John was born August 7, 1929 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Lloyd L. & Marguerite (LeValley) Hathaway.
John was retired from farming in the Neave Township area and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. A few years ago he received the 50th Anniversary Korean War Service Medal. John was a member of the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church, the New Madison American Legion, Darke County Farm Bureau, former board member of Landmark, former board member of Miami Valley Milk Producers, Darke County Dairy Service Unit, the Ft. Greenville Camping Club, and following his retirement he enjoyed many events with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Son Keith Hathaway in 1974, also a grandson Robbie Hathaway in 1984, great granddaughter Sarah Heeter in 2002 and a brother Lloyd Hathaway as an infant.
John is survived by his wife Iris M. (Geeting) Hathaway of Greenville. They were married October 5, 1950. Also by sons and daughters in law: John R. & Deborah L. Hathaway Jr. and Donald L & Connie Hathaway all of Greenville. Daughters and son in law: Carol A. Hathaway of Greenville and Diane L. & Kirk Zimmer of Arcanum. Grandchildren and spouses: Brian K. (Audrey) Hathaway, Jaime L. Heeter, Doug (Karla) Zimmer, Philip (Haven) Zimmer, Charles Zimmer and fiancé Krista Hartman, Erica Zimmer, Pam Baker, Alicia (Jeremy) McKinney, John Bradley Hathaway and fiancé Jenny Holmes. Step Grandsons and spouses: Matt (Jennifer) Swiger, Mike (Kari) Swiger, and Mitch (Ambre) Swiger. Great Grandchildren: Naomi Hathaway, Johnathan Heeter, Lydia Heeter, David John Zimmer, Ashlyn Zimmer, Ethan Zimmer, Amelia Zimmer, Donald Lee Hathaway and Faith Hathaway. Step Great Grandchildren: Audrey Swiger, Trevor Swiger and Jaylin Swiger. Half Sister: Betty Flommersfeld and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday May 14, 2010 at the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church 3856 Church Street Ft. Jefferson, Ohio with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Ft. Jefferson with Military Graveside Honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 until 11 A.M. at the Church.
