Omer Powell, 74, of Union City, OH, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 15, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
He was born December 10, 1935 in Manchester, Kentucky, son of the late Walter and Bessie (Hornsby) Powell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Grace Doyle, Lucian Powell, Raymond Powell, Jim Powell and Marie Powell.
Omer was retired from the former Sheller Globe in Union City and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Union City.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Pauline (Lewis) Powell whom he married October 29, 1960; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Sue (Brown) Powell of Nappanee, IN, Clarke and Lori (Norris) Powell of Portland, IN, Tony and Angie (Jenkins) Powell of Leesburg, IN and Willie and Tina (Burns) Powell of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Rufus Powell of Lakewood, CO., Don Powell of Manchester, KY; and a sister, Mary Langdon of Hamilton, OH.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH, with Pastor Paul Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in the Snell Cemetery near Union City, OH.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice, 1350 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH 45331.
