Jay W. Niswonger, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday January 16, 2011 at 5:35 AM at Vitas Hospice, Dayton, Ohio. He was born May 29, 1924 in Greenville, Ohio the son of the late Roscoe & Leafie Niswonger. He was a farmer and retired from Corning Glass. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of Fort Black Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, Darke County Shrine Club, V.F.W., & the Cannon Group for Greenville Football games. He loved watching his sons play and coach football, he loved watching the Valley View Spartans, he loved watching his crops grow, & hanging out at McDonalds with his circle of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Brother: Emil Niswonger; Niece: Carolyn Higgins.
He is survived by his Sons & daughter in law: Mark & Patty Niswonger of Edinboro, PA., Jay Niswonger of Germantown, Ohio; Daughter: Sylvia Niswonger of Fort Jefferson; Grandchildren: Megan & Josh Niswonger, Brandon Williams; Children’s mother: Carolyn Simon of Ft. Jefferson; Brother & sister in law: George “Junior” & Helen Niswonger of Greenville; Nieces: Shirley Mowry, Bonnie Stinson, Linda Neanan; numerous great nieces & nephews.
Services will be held on Friday January 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. John McRoberts officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Jefferson, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday January 20, 2011 at the funeral home. A Scottish Rite ring service will be held at 6:45 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Antioch Shrine or the Shriners Burn Hospital. The family would like to give special thanks to John Hupman, Mary Beth Ellis, the Staff at Miami Valley Hospital, Dr. Maher, & Dr. Cech.
