John W. Herron, age 64, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday January 8, 2011 at 4:25 PM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on May 11, 1946 in Celina, Ohio, to Irene (Schott) Herron of St. Henry, Ohio, and the late James D. Herron.
John Worked at GTI for 12 years and prior to that he worked at Lobdell Emery in Winchester, Indiana for 23 years.
John was a member of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade for the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War where he received 2 purple hearts.
He was a member of the VFW in Greenville, was an avid sports fan, loved spending time with his son and family and loved traveling with his wife.
In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his mother in law, Doris Kelch and brother in law, Paul Huntwork.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Bonnie (Kelch) Herron of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on July 19, 1968; son and daughter in law, Tim & Angela Herron of Lebanon, Ohio; grandchildren, Adam & Stephanie Herron; brothers and sisters in law, James D. & Karen Herron Jr. of Worthington, Ohio and Robert & Donna Herron of Greenville; sister, Lea Huntwork of Union City, Ohio; father in law, John Kelch of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a service held on Thursday January 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday January 12, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. There will be a graveside military service conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to the Darke County Cancer Association.
