Ward S. Dunevant, age 84 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Gettysburg, Ohio, passed away on Thursday January 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Heartland of Greenville. He was born December 16, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late David Riley & Mabel G. (Warren) Dunevant. He worked for BF Goodrich for 37 ½ years. He served as Mayor of Gettysburg from 1988 to 1992 and served on Council for 14 years. He was also on the Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of East Zion Church, VFW, Piqua American Legion, Covington Eagles, Gettysburg Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, & the North American Hunting Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 1st Wife: Delores Dunevant; 2nd Wife: Reola D. Dunevant; Step Daughter: Carole Yount; Great Great grandson: Braedyn Michael Montgomery; Brothers: Harley Dunevant, Charlie Dunevant; Sisters: Ruby Palser, Mary Barnhardt.
He is survived by his children & spouses: James & Sandy Brining of New Bremen, Ward & Darcy Dunevant Jr. of Florida, Alice & Dale Pierce of West Milton, Ohio, Cheryl Edwards of Greenville, Kenneth & Susan Dunevant of Greenville; 12 Grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; sisters: Alice Knick of Greenville, Leona “Toni” Hale of Florida; numerous nieces & nephews.
Services will be held on Tuesday January 18, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bill Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Gettysburg Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday January 17, 2011 at the funeral home. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
