Jake C. Lawson (May 11, 2010)
Jake C. Lawson, 87, of Arcanum, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Mr. Lawson was born in Lee County, Virginia on November 6, 1922, the son of the late John and Marie (Hinkle) Lawson. He worked as a Mill Operator at Dayton Tire and Rubber Company retiring August 1, 1978. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. Jake was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Gosnell) Lawson, Brothers and Sisters. He is survived by his daughter Gloria Meyer and husband Rex of Arcanum; Grandson Monte Meyer of Arcanum; Great Grandson Eli Meyer; many Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Interment will be private at convenience of the family in Ithaca Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday 6 - 7 PM at the funeral home. Alice F. Dickey (May 11, 2010)
Alice F. Dickey, 95, of Arcanum, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Brookdale Place of Englewood. Mrs. Dickey was born in Darke County on December 10, 1914, the daughter of the late James R. and Alma R. (Eller) Barklow. She was a member of Gordon United Methodist Church. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Leonard M. Dickey, who died August 25, 1979, son Kent Dickey who died January 14, 1993, sister Jeannie Heckathorn and Brother John Barklow. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Myra Coleman and husband William of Arcanum; 2 grand daughters Deena Kent-Hummel of Dayton and Darla Parker and husband Edward of Danville, KY; 2 great grandsons Evan and Darren Parker; sister Barbara Carmony of Brookville; and a sister-in-law Margaret Barklow. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Bethel Cemetery, Phillipsburg with Pastor John Gilmore officiating. Memorial Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday May 29, 2010 at the Gordon United Methodist Church. The family requests no flowers and donations can be given to Darke County Hospice or Arcanum Community Rescue.

Pauline Corle (May 8, 2010)
Mrs. Pauline Corle, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:39 PM at the Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio. She was born on October 28, 1919 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Omer & Hazel (Westfall) Skidmore.
Pauline retired as a Medical Secretary from Dr. William S. Elliott’s office in 1981. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Grandmothers club.
In addition her parents she is preceded in death her husband, Glenn E. Corle whom she married on June 7, 1942; daughter, Sally J. Sink; son in law, Robert Hyatt; sisters, Fleeta Price, Luella Keltner and Ogoa Patterson; and infant brother, Bobby Skidmore.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hyatt of Massillon, Ohio; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jamie) Willis, Michelle (Craig) Reynolds, and Christen (Kevin) Rowles; great grandchildren, Tyler Willis, Austin Willis, Cody Reynolds, Callie Reynolds, and Robyn Rowles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a service held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 6-8 PM as well as one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Shriners Hospital or Canton Mercy Hospice.

Mrs. Naomi F. (Fasick) Wyan, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 12:50 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on February 3, 1920 in West Milton, Ohio to the late Lawrence & Clara (Oda) Fasick.
Naomi retired from Honeywell in 1985 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren and loved music, sewing, gardening and card groups.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, G. Harold Wyan; brothers, Lloyd, Byron, Willard and Gerald Fasick; and a sister, Treva Eberwein.

Mr. James Elder “Jim” Magoteaux, 70 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on May 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born on October 24, 1939 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Elder C. & E. Irene (Anthony) Magoteaux.
Jim worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for Braniff Airways. He was a member of the United States Air Force and Bible Fellowship Church in Greenville, Ohio. He loved working and camping.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Reck.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Frazier) Magoteaux of Greenville, Ohio whom he married on February 14, 1977; daughters, Cynthia Izzo of Kissimmee, Florida and Cyndy Bowers of Greenville; grandchildren, Robert Izzo, Jennifer Ferguson, C.J. Mr. William Jeffrey Hawley, 58 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 8:18 AM at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on August 4, 1951 in Greenville, Ohio to Joan Hawley of Greenville, Ohio and the late Daniel Hawley.
Jeff worked as a Quality Control Engineer. Was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville Bike Club and the Liars Club. He loved biking, running, fishing, camping and sports.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanie (Pequignot) Hawley.

Roger Joseph Mangen age 76 of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 9:02 P.M. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Roger was born November 1, 1933 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Adrian & Bertha (Dapore) Mangen.
Roger formerly worked at Stephens Lumber in Arcanum.
Roger is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Mangen; sons & daughter-in-law, Larry Mangen of Rossburg, Gary Mangen of New Paris and David & Janel Mangen of Versailles; daughter & son-in-law, Madonna & Tim Runner of Rossburg; step children, Linda & John Schroeder of Fountain City, Indiana, Tim Lenker of Tennessee, Carol & Steve Hill of Lynn, Indiana and Dan & Sheila Lenker of Greenville; 9 grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren; brothers, Gerald Mangen of Celina and Nolan Mangen of North Star; and sisters, Alberta Wenning of Coldwater and Susan Eilerman of Ft. Mr. Richard Labig, age 88 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday May 5, 2010 at 4:45 PM. He was born January 3, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Elsworth & Mabel (Jobes) Labig.
He was a core maker for Hobart in Troy for 34 years retiring in 1984. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
He was a member of EUM Church, a graduate of Greenville High School in 1939, a life member of the VFW, an active member of Greenville Area Senior Citizens, & a member of the Quarter Century Club at Hobart Corp.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Son: James R. Labig; Brother: Marvin Labig; Sisters: Phyllis Jean Labig, Marcella Unger.
He is survived by his wife: Mildred I. (Winn) Labig of Greenville whom he married February 14, 1942; Sons: John R. Labig of Greenville, Joel Labig of Colville, Washington; Brother & sister in law: Chalmer & Martha Labig of Greenville; & nieces & nephews.

Betty was a home maker, she had worked at Hardees, for the Campbell Soup Company, and State Line Clothing Care. During the Korean War, Betty worked in a military factory. Betty loved to read, to watch T.V., to do puzzle books, and enjoyed watching big time wrestling.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Gorrell in 1970 and a daughter Dianna Fisher, brother, Bob Best, and sister, Phyllis Brooks.
She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, Bob and Sue Gorell of Greenville and Michael Steven Gorrell of Union City, In; three Grandchildren, Rob Gorell, of Greenville, Michael Fisher of Florida, and Emily Fisher of Ft. Wayne In three Great Grandchildren, Mackenzie Gorrell of Greenville, Logan Gorrell, of Gettysburg, and Dakota Long of Gettysburg and a sister, Maxine Beam.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Fraze-Brooks Funeral Home in Union City, In with the Rev. Hershel Fee being asked to officiate. Friends may call on the family from 12 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery.

Benjamin C. Blanton (May 3, 2010)
Benjamin Cain Blanton, passed away on May 3, 2010. Benjamin was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 20, 1984. The son of Roberta Moore and Steve Blanton, brother to Ryan and Leah and a loving father to Hayden Cain. A special uncle to nieces, Harley and Victoria. Benjamin is also survived by his girlfriend, Brittany Vicory along with a host of loving family and friends. Benjamin was employed at Concrete Sealants. Although Benjamin’s life was short, he had an impact on everyone that met him, if he said he was your friend, you had his word. He lived life to the fullest every single day. Benjamin’s passion in life was playing with his son and cheering on his Cincinnati Bengals. He has left a huge void in the lives of everyone who knew him.

Marvin J. Yount,73, of Greenville passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Dayton,Ohio.
He was born in Greenville, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Rue) Yount. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Eugene and Wayne Yount; a sister Tolitha.
Marvin was retired from Wilson's Livestock Exchange of Greenville.
He is survived by a brother, Walter Yount, Jr. of New Paris; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1 p.m., at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Elwood Stuart officiating . Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery near Brock, Ohio.

David C. Minsterman (May 5, 2010)
David C. Minsterman, 75, of Greenville, passed on to the next life after losing his battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis disease on May 5, 2010 in Ft. Myers FL.
He was born on January 1, 1935, son of the late Rev. Lewis C Minsterman and Elsie (Panhorst) Minsterman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Harold Minsterman; and a sister Harriet Haag.
Dave lived a full and vibrant life with a career that included several years employment with Dairy Maid Dairy and then with Nabisco Brands as a sales Representive.
After retirement he enjoyed working with Stillwater Valley Golf Course in Ohio and Sanctuary Golf Course in Sanibel, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hufford) Minsterman; daughters Diane (Bob) Cronin and Darla (Mick) Nealeigh; 5 grandchildren, Brain and Kelsey Cronin, Sara , Katelin and Lisa Nealeigh; a brother, L. Richard Minsterman of Yellow Springs; a brother-in-law, Norman Haag; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Leas; several nieces, nephews and their families. He will be remembered by special friends Tom and Nancy and neighbors.

Marie Howard, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday May 1, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born July 5, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of the late Lowell & Anna (Lyons) Hoff.
She worked at Neff Lettering for 11 years and at Meijers in Troy for 7 years, she also had been a cook and waitress for about 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church and attended Verona High School.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Step Father: Dale Locke; 1st Husband: Charles Harris; 2nd Husband: Darrell Howard; Infant daughter: Doris Ann Harris; Daughter: Betty Sparks; Grandson: Steven Harris; Sister: Ruth Allen.
She is survived by her Son & daughter in law: Charles E. & Reva Harris of Lexington, Kentucky; Daughter: Anita Harris of Greenville; 11 Grandchildren; 20 Great grandchildren; 7 Great great grandchildren; Sisters: Glenna Creech of Eaton, Ohio, Nancy Hofacker of Greenville.

He worked in the plumbing, roofing & heating industries. He served in the United States Army in World War II. His grandfather Ben T. was very influential in his life. He was an avid sports player playing baseball, basketball, bowling, and golf.
He is survived by his daughter & son in law: Pamela & Ken Emrick of Greenville; Special Friend: Mary Brinley of Greenville; Grandchildren & spouses: Emily & Ira Shertzer of Silver Springs, Maryland, Gina & Darrell Fryman of Greenville, Travis Emrick at home; Sisters: Lora Lee Peters of New Carlisle, Ohio, Mary Virginia Amburgey of Dayton; and a few nieces & nephews.

Mr. Marion D. “Chuck” Coovert, 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 9:41 PM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on July 22, 1923 in Eldorado, Ohio to the late Harley & Olive (Duckwall) Coovert.
Chuck was a member of the United States Army and Craft Club. He was a 55 year member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge 143, his other Masonic affiliations include the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; Antioch Shrine of Dayton; Darke County Shrine Club of which he was a member of the Shrine Jeepsters. Chuck has been a summer resident of Cedarville, Michigan for 48 years.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son in law, Brian Malcho; sister, Ruthann Coovert; and father and mother in law, Sherman & Gertrude Baird.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Baird) Coovert of Greenville, Ohio whom he married of the Bride and Groom TV Show in New York City, New York of July 16, 1952; daughter, Connie Malcho of Cedarville, Michigan; granddaughter, Emily Malcho of Cedarville, Michigan; and sister in law, Thelma Shives of Greenville, Ohio.

Terry A. "Bub" Baker, Jr., 29, of Arcanum, passed away early Sunday morning, May 2, 2010 at the emergency room of Wayne Hospital in Greenville.
He was born in Greenville, son of Terry A. (friend, LeAnna Denlinger) Baker of Union City and Candice L. (friend, Jerry Skidmore) Ullery of Greenville.
Bub had worked in construction for numerous contractors.
In addition to his parents he is survived by a special friend and her daughter, Kristin and McKinsey Willis; sisters, Stephanie (John) Baumgardner, Amber (Shane) Hall and Sara Baker; brother, Josh Baker; grandparents, Connie Santee, Dwight and LaDonna Brewer, Lula Skidmore and great grandmother, Verla Baker; nephews, Alexander, Lucas, Cooper; nieces, Avery and Aubrey; and his best friends, Ryan Brewer, Derrick and Kyle Skidmore.
He was preceded in death by his step father, J. Duane Ullery and grandfather, John Santee.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Darke County Recovery Services.

Wavelene G. Birt, 91, formerly of Ansonia and Rossburg, passed away Saturday morning, May 1, 2010 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.
She was born in Darke County, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Hiestand) Anderson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Don Birt in 1980; a daughter, Carolyn Burk; brothers Albert, Chester, Clarence, Forest, Raymond and Charles Anderson; and a sister, Mildred Rose.
Wavelene was a homemaker, and loved to play cards. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church, Ansonia American Legion Auxillary and Ansonia Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her children, Wanda Young of Ft. Walton Beach FL., Richard (Diane) Birt of Ansonia, James Birt of Ansonia, and Terry (Neva) Birt of Greenville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister Mary Arnett of Lima, OH.
